Andy Grossmeyer

i there! I first found my passion for helping people through studying Sociology at the same time as discovering my LGBTQ+ identities. I learned about the institutions and systems in place in our society that keep people from living as their truest selves. Then, during my Social Work program, I learned tools to help me help others. Before shifting my focus to therapy, I worked in LGBTQ+ advocacy as a Community Educator. My experience and education give me an understanding of and ability to work with people experiencing systematic oppression, including those in the LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and disability communities.

During sessions, I love to use metaphors to help clients understand their situations in new ways. I think the best therapists are like mirrors. They help you to see areas of yourself that you might try to ignore or cannot easily see. If you decide to pursue a therapeutic relationship with me, I will walk with you in your journey of processing hurt, feeling emotional growing pains, and (eventually) radical self-acceptance.
