Therapists for college students near UCLA
As a queer-identifying clinician, I bring a compassionate, affirming, and inclusive approach to therapy, honoring the diverse identities and lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. I am deeply committed to building genuine rapport and trust, creating a therapeutic space where clients feel fully seen, supported, and valued in their authentic selves. My practice is grounded in LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity-affirming principles, informed by my B.A. in Women’s Studies and its emphasis on social justice, intersectionality, and feminist frameworks. My graduate training in Depth Psychology has enriched my understanding of the unconscious forces that shape our inner and relational worlds. From a psychodynamic perspective, I work collaboratively with clients to explore the patterns, motivations, and early trauma that influences their emotional lives and relationships. In addition to psychodynamic work, I integrate Family Systems theory and Internal Family Systems (IFS) modalities, approaches that support clients in navigating internal conflicts and relational dynamics with clarity, compassion, and self-leadership. My skills in attunement, active listening, and culturally competent, curious counseling allow me to adapt to each client’s unique needs and strengths. Whether you are seeking support for LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent identity exploration, relationship concerns, trauma healing, or personal growth, I strive to offer a therapeutic relationship rooted in empathy, curiosity, and collaboration; one that fosters healing, resilience, and empowerment. If you’re curious about working together, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a chance for us to connect and see if we’re a good fit.

Many people experience adversity, wondering what happened in their life. They may have difficulty navigating relationships, question their gender identity, or feel under pressure at school or work, unsure of how to make it through the day. Moments like these can be overwhelming, but with guidance and support, many can not only survive but flourish. I teach clients skills to better tackle daily challenges. My experience working with LGBTQ+ youth and young adults prepared me to help clients overcome adversity and live authentically. My goal is to help clients challenge unhelpful thoughts that wear them down and promote problem-solving. I hope to empower clients to grow and even inspire others to grow.

Are You Ready to Create Positive Lasting Change? “Change is not merely necessary to life – it is life.” – Alvin Toffler Few things in life, if any, are as constant as change! Whether or not we are ready for it, change comes to us in many forms and in many ways – in our personal and professional relationships, in where we live, in our career paths, in our life goals and ambitions, and in how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. However, despite the continuity of change, coping with it can be a difficult and troubling experience. Change often causes us to step outside of what’s familiar and comfortable – bringing up new questions, unsettling emotions, and uncertainty about life and our place in it. In order to survive, we must learn to accept and navigate change. But survival is just the beginning… To achieve true success, we must go beyond becoming comfortable with change. We must learn to create the changes we want and need! It can take a lot of work. But despite the difficulties, you’ll find few things in life more profoundly rewarding than being able to create positive lasting change. Whether you’re trying to cope with current life changes or actively working to create the life you desire, there may be nothing so important as having an objective and highly-skilled partner to help you along the path to a better life. Helping people take control of their lives and create positive, lasting change is exactly what I do. And I love doing it! I’ve learned to create the life I’ve always wanted, and I know no greater joy than helping others do the same. If I can do it, so can you. Please keep reading for more information or contact me today, 510-486-1188 or karenrosemft@rose-counseling.com. I look forward to hearing from you. How My Work Can Work For You The first step necessary for coping with – and creating – change is to identify where you are now as well as the life you’d like to create. And, through a combination of thoughtful questioning and out-of-the-box thinking, I’ve helped countless clients do just that. Once we’ve established a clear set of goals for our work together, you will be ready to learn the strategies, tools, and skills necessary to create a life of meaning and self-fulfillment. Then, using a variety of techniques such as solution-focused, short-term counseling, in-depth psychotherapy, psychospirituality, dreamwork, and other methodologies, I can help you overcome anxiety and depression, conquer recurring obstacles, discover meaning, and create a life you’re proud to call a true success! Solution-Focused Counseling – This relatively brief method of counseling can help relieve current symptoms you may be experiencing (such as anxiety or depression), facilitate better communication with others, reduce stress, and help you feel better. Long-Term Psychotherapy – My use of longer-term psychotherapy includes Jungian depth work, dream work, and psychospirituality. This type of therapy can help you explore who you are, discover meaning and purpose in life, and achieve a greater level of self-understanding. Career Counseling – The career counseling services I provide can help identify areas in your life (career, relationships, spirituality, etc.) where you feel called to be more aligned with your purpose. With that knowledge in hand, I can help you acknowledge and overcome any barriers preventing you from achieving your dreams.
Hello, I’m Alison. I help young adults who are overwhelmed, hopeless or anxious feel more in control and able to manage life's stressors and challenges. Some of the issues young adults have come to see me for include: relationship concerns, feelings of being overwhelmed, struggling to adapt to college or missing home, body image issues, life transitions, questions about gender/sexuality, and personal and family trauma. Trauma can include many things, such as relationship abuse, childhood abuse, illness, death, discrimination, and adoption issues. Using talk and somatic (body-oriented) therapy, as well as the expressive arts, I help clients connect to themselves and access resources to help them feel more at peace and in control of their lives. You will find me to be authentic, caring, and a dedicated support on your journey to healing. I bring compassion, mindfulness, and creativity to my work and consider it an honor to work with my clients. As a lifelong traveler who has lived in many places, I enjoy and value working with people from all walks of life. I look forward to meeting you.

Have things started to feel harder than they used to? This is a good sign. It's time to take care of you in a more meaningful way than you've experienced before. I work with clients who report feeling dismayed by their reactions to work stress, school stress, and/or relationship stress. I'm a deeply empathetic, yet directive therapist. I draw from multiple research-backed approaches to address your needs and goals. I have extensive experience working with overwhelm, stress, and depression, as well as PTSD, with adults, children and families. I feel honored to work with clients in what I consider to be a sacred process. Most of my clients report that they feel relief and hope within the first session. Clients see continued improvement as we process challenging experiences together and honor the natural wisdom and sense of personal power that arises from the work. Over time, experiences of reactivity, as well feelings such as anxiety, anger, sadness, and joy all become meaningful and helpful when we hold them with curiosity and compassion. And despite my education and training, I want you to know that I won't ever be 'done' finding parts of myself that need more love, or areas of my life that stretch me when I least expect it. It's because I lead a truly human life, combined with experience and support, that I know the courage and hard choices it takes to make this step toward healing.

I work with clients who are struggling with feeling "not good enough" whether because of their own inner critic or because of marginalization and oppression from a world that is telling you you are "too much," or "not enough." I am passionate about helping clients move past their anxiety, self-doubt, and self-criticism to feel confident, secure, and proud of themselves. I also integrate career counseling into my work, helping clients move towards a future they are excited about. I offer individual and group therapy online for folks located in California and Connecticut. I see clients in person from my office in Ridgefield, CT. Eating disorders can feel hopeless, but they aren’t. Whether this is your first time seeking help, or your umpteenth time, I believe that everyone can recover. There are many reasons eating disorders are invited into your life. Just as there are many reasons why a person develops an eating disorder, the way you recover will be just as unique. If there was a one size fits all solution, that would perhaps be as deceptive as the problem itself. Whether it’s perfectionism, judgment, loneliness, self-improvement, health, fear, family issues… Together we will discover what invites these problems into your life, and begin to find what recovery means for them. I have been in the battle with food and weight, caught in the war zone of an eating disorder, and come out the other side. Now recovered, I love working with individuals and their loved ones to find their own version of recovery, and find out what is keeping you stuck from living the life you desire. Through conversations, we will create space to discover your preferences, hopes and desires. Many of my clients have described me as the “anti-therapist,” which is a description I wear with pride. I bring enthusiasm, improvisation, imagination, and creativity into each session. My ability to think outside the nine dots and ask questions that others may not enables me to develop creative solutions with clients to help untangle what many would consider to be complicated problems. I believe in (and embrace) experimentation: the freedom to test things out and see how they fit, to explore the various facets of yourself, and to allow for complexities, and contradictions, and messiness… all the stuff the eating disorder hates and recovery needs. Eating disorders, are strong, they need something stronger to overpower them. I want to help discover what that is for you.

During challenging times, people often feel defeated and focus on what is wrong. I want to shift the focus from what is "not working" to identifying what is "working." We will work to uncover patterns (behavioral, thought beliefs, relationship), that will lead you to making better decisions. I want to offer a safe place to process thoughts and feelings around issues that can be challenging. I am interested in helping people who experience stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss and challenges with relationships (social or romantic). Many conversations are around “adulting” and how to manage life, career, relationships, etc. I teach clients how negative thought patterns/language effect mood and behavior. Narrative and Solution Focused therapy assists in shifting from self-defeating language/thoughts to a positive life narrative. I utilize CBT and teach the basics of how thoughts effect behavior/mood. I teach ACT concepts- to learn how our emotions and thoughts are related. I teach mindfulness to help with coping.
