Therapists for college students near University of Colorado Boulder
College is usually sold as "the best years of your life," but for a lot of students, it feels more like a non-stop cycle of pressure. At Alpine Creek, we work best with students who are tired of pretending they have it all figured out. Most of our student clients come to us because they feel like they’re just "getting by" rather than actually living. What it often feels like: Constant Brain Fog: You’re physically in class, but your mind is stuck on your to-do list, your grades, or a conversation that went wrong three days ago. The "Social Battery" is Dead: Trying to find your place on campus or dealing with roommate drama is leaving you feeling more drained than connected. Relationship Stress: Whether it's a long-distance struggle or a new relationship here in town, you’re arguing more and feeling less understood. Heavy Weight: You might be carrying things from your past, like trauma or old family stuff, that feels like it’s getting heavier now that you’re on your own. The "What’s the Point?" Feeling: It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re dealing with deep sadness or an anxiety that won't let you catch your breath. How we help: We don’t do "clinical" or "stuffy" therapy. We provide a straightforward, safe space to just be a human. We help you look at the patterns that keep you stuck and give you actual tools to manage the panic, the low moods, and the relationship blowouts.

Hello and welcome! I am a licensed marriage & family therapist. I worked with clients in the La Jolla/San Diego area for many years before moving across the country to Florida. I currently serve California, Colorado, and Florida-based clients via secure video counseling. I work with individuals, couples, and families to help each person resolve problems, to create more satisfying relationships, and to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, couples conflict, substance abuse, eating disorders, chronic illness, and pre-marital issues, but I also have experience helping people through a wide range of other problems that may be bothering them (please see "Services Provided" for more detailed information). My approach is mostly collaborative - I believe that my clients should have options when choosing what type of therapy treatment they feel is best for them. I also, when appropriate, will work closely with a client's healthcare providers as part of the treatment. This way, my clients have additional support as we work through challenges. I absolutely love working as a therapist! Nothing gives me more satisfaction than saving a marriage, increasing the bonds of love between family members, or helping someone overcome an addictive pattern and find new meaning in their life. Please contact me to set up your first appointment.
Having over 20 years of experience, I specialize in guiding and supporting individuals as they navigate complex relationship issues. Many are family members who have loved ones that struggle with addiction. I help people resolve unhealed emotions and break patterns they’ve been stuck in so they can grow in setting limits, building confidence, and feeling better.
We've all heard that life is about balance, but who teaches us how to find that balance? It's hard enough under normal circumstances, but when life throws a curveball that changes your routine, it can feel like you're walking a tightrope. Add other people's needs and expectations to the mix, and finding balance for yourself can seem downright impossible. You don't have to navigate it on your own - I'm here to help! Let's work together to help you become a happier, healthier version of yourself. My therapy sessions are a space for the helpers, healers, carers, and people-pleasers that I work with, to prioritize their OWN needs. At bare minimum, you can count on being seen and acknowledged for who you are, not just for what you can provide or achieve. This on its own can be healing, and will serve as the foundation for our work together. I take a very collaborative approach to treatment, and recognize you as the expert of your own goals, needs, and experiences. Together we'll identify what parts of your life feel out of whack, how you'd like things to look different, and what manageable and realistic steps you can take to get there. We'll gently challenge any thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs that might be keeping you stuck. I also like to teach tools and skills that you can use outside of our sessions to help combat anxiety, improve communication, make difficult decisions, avoid impulsive responses, and cope with life's challenges. I am a strong believer that therapy should be a partnership. Like any strong relationship, the therapeutic relationship needs to be built on trust. I strive for transparency at every step. If I'm teaching a particular skill, I'll tell you about the science behind the skill and why it works. When it comes to mental health diagnoses, we're gonna talk through it together. It shouldn't feel like the work is happening mysteriously behind a curtain - I'm always happy to explain why I'm asking certain questions and where my head is at during our sessions. In the vast majority of situations, I believe that people are just trying to survive in the best way they know how. Your responses may not be serving you well at this juncture in life, but they got you this far, and I think it's important to honor that. If you are seeking therapy, you've already overcome adversity and have some amazing resilience and survival skills. My job is to help you build upon those strengths that you already have. I genuinely look forward to working with you!

Ready to become unstuck and empowered to take charge of your deepest struggles? Many aspects of our lives can make us feel completely powerless, but having a therapeutic guide can remind us of what we already know about ourselves while pushing us to think outside the box, discover personal meaning, and branch out of our comfort zones. I enjoy using creative, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions that will help you embrace your complex and beautifully human life journey. I’m ready to meet you where you are with intuition and empathy. Together, we can initiate healing that leads you toward confidence, fulfillment, and wholeness. You may feel stuck in repeating family patterns, unprocessed trauma, mood instability, low self-esteem, identity confusion, unwanted substance use, or disconnection from yourself. Regardless of the presenting challenges and diagnoses, I often focus on how your struggles relate to and are impacted by the systems in which you exist, such as family, intimate relationships, friendships, work, and society as a whole. I also believe therapy can hold both depth and humanity. Humor, authenticity, and genuine connection are part of the process. Even when we’re discussing difficult or uncomfortable topics, you will be met with openness, curiosity, and no judgment. I'd love to hear from you if you have questions or are interested in involving me in whatever journey you're on!

I believe in the restorative power of hope. Over the course of my career I have been able to support clients to internalize the belief that they can make change in their lives. From focusing on eliminating inner negative chatter to processing an acute trauma, I strive to create opportunities for the achievement of one's goals. Through partnership, trust and the sharing of knowledge, real movement can occur. There is hope. Licensed as both a mental health and addictions specialist counselor, I work with both individuals and couples. I practice remotely in Colorado and Rhode Island. My practice approach starts with identifying how to begin shifting what isn't providing benefit, with behavioral, cognitive and emotional evolution. This is a strengths-based, collaborative process grounded in trust and respect. I completed my Master of Arts and Master of Education in Psychological Counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University. My deep professional satisfaction is grounded in the experience of growth and recovery that clients obtain through our efforts. Hi there—I’m Odira, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience guiding students and young adults through life’s twists and turns. Many students wrestle with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and relationship ups and downs. That’s why I blend person-centered, holistic, and eclectic approaches to create a space that’s uniquely yours. Over the years, I’ve led behavioral health teams and delivered therapy in community and clinical settings—experience that’s deepened my understanding of the pressures you face on campus and beyond. My passion is creating a warm, collaborative environment where you can explore your strengths, cultivate resilience, and gain clarity. Ready to get started during those after-work or weekend hours? College is like a pressure cooker of compounding transitions. On top of demanding coursework, you are likely navigating the intense world of identity exploration. This can mean a lot of things; from the deeply personal layers of discovering your sexual orientation and gender identity, to simply figuring out who you are as an individual and what you actually want out of romantic and sexual relationships. As a queer therapist, I intimately understand the unique difficulties of navigating these shifts. I have walked this path myself, personally navigating profound changes in my own sexual orientation and gender identity, and I know how isolating it can feel to explore these core parts of yourself while trying to maintain your GPA. It is incredibly common to feel stuck in a major or career track that feels entirely wrong, paralyzed by the fear of starting over. I know that panic firsthand. I spent years working as a software developer before a season of deep introspection and counseling gave me the courage to make a massive pivot. Today, I am in a field I love deeply; one that brings me genuine passion far beyond a paycheck. If you are feeling misaligned with your current path, I offer specialized career counseling to help you cut through the external expectations, decode your true strengths, and confidently identify a professional field that actually fits your authentic self. Whether you are drowning in academic stress, untangling painful relationship patterns, processing trauma, or facing a complete directional pivot, you do not have to figure it out alone. Together, we will address the practical mechanics of stress management while diving deep into the relational dynamics that keep you stuck. I provide an encouraging, explicitly inclusive, and safe space where no topic is too messy or taboo. Your college years can feel incredibly destabilizing, but our work together will help you build the self-trust and clarity needed to step out of survival mode and into a life that is genuinely, authentically your own.
As a trauma-informed therapist, my work centers on identity, healing, and relational transformation for adults working to reclaim clarity, autonomy, and emotional wellness. Whether you're navigating coercive relationships, trauma, identity loss, or a major life transition, this is a space where your experiences are genuinely understood and validated. Many of the people I work with are seeking emotional safety, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self after experiencing emotionally harmful dynamics, including divorce, narcissistic abuse, domestic violence, cult experiences, or religious and spiritual trauma. These are experiences that can be difficult to put into words, and you deserve a therapist who not only understands them but can help you make sense of what you've been through. At the heart of my approach is a deep belief in our innate human need to be authentic and free. That belief shapes how I show up for you, as a supportive, grounding presence dedicated to helping you reclaim your life, your identity, and your autonomy. Collaboration, curiosity, and a deep respect for your autonomy shape the way I work with you. Every session is built on a foundation of trust and honesty, in a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and genuinely supportive of wherever you are in your journey. Using relational and trauma-informed approaches, we'll work together to help you better understand and reconnect with yourself, process painful experiences, and build healthier patterns in your relationships and daily life. I tailor everything to your unique needs and goals, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all framework. What matters most is that you feel genuinely seen, especially in experiences that others may not fully understand. Coercive control, emotional abuse, and relational trauma are areas I'm particularly drawn to and well-versed in. For many people, simply feeling validated in these experiences is a meaningful first step. My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by both personal and professional experiences that showed me, firsthand, how profoundly relationships and social influence shape our emotional well-being and sense of self. These experiences didn't just inform my clinical focus — they deepened my commitment to creating a therapeutic space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. Warmth, insight, and an authentic relational presence are what I bring to every session. This work is not just a career; it's a calling rooted in a genuine desire to walk alongside you as you find your way back to yourself. Outside of sessions, you'll often find me reading, writing, or diving into investigative journalism. Hobbies that keep me both curious and grounded. Hiking offers a different kind of reset, one that connects me to the world in a way that carries over into how I show up for the people I work with.
Welcome to Gray Dove Therapy! I'm Shelby Jacobs.
