Therapists for college students near 30332
Hello All! Welcome!, my name is Destiny and I am a licensed professional counselor, certified trauma professional, and EMDR-Trained therapist practicing in the state of Georgia for four years. However, I have been in the mental health field as a student, paraprofessional, advocate, and blogger for 6 years. Over the years I have worked with many diverse individuals and groups in inpatient, private practice, residential, and corrections. I specialize in trauma-informed care, mood disorders, and women's issues, however, I also work with many other diverse issues and populations which has given me the ability to advance my knowledge with people of different cultures, gender, sexuality, and race. My life motto and priority is "Everyone is deserving of a safe space to heal and cope in the present moment." With that, I welcome ALL to join me in a space where you don't have to worry about judgment, and as your therapist, I am here to actively learn your story and guide you on your journey toward peace.
I worked eight years as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in several settings before expanding my specialty to Psychiatry/Mental Health; it was the best career decision I could have made. I started practicing Psychiatry in a correctional setting, treating adolescents and adults. It was there that I recognized the significance of early mental health promotion, screening, and treatment. For the past four years, I’ve worked in a private practice with a diverse patient population across the lifespan. My main role is assessing, diagnosing, education, and medication management, and I occasionally incorporate therapy. I have found that motivational interviewing helps elicit the patient’s goals and determine readiness for change. The individual patient and his/her goals dictate my chosen therapy modality. Brief supportive therapy, Grief therapy, and CBT interventions are the modalities I most often incorporate. All psychiatry providers at Foresight have specialized experience in treating a wide range of common mental health conditions, including but not limited to ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, depression, and PTSD. In addition, I specialize in the following areas: academic stress, BIPOC mental health issues, CBT-I, comorbidities/medical complexity, deprescribing, holistic approaches to psychiatry, LGBTQIQ2s+ mental health, personality disorders, somatic symptoms disorders, trauma-informed care, anger management, antisocial personality disorder, autism spectrum disorder, chronic illness, chronic pain, developmental disorders, dissociative disorders, first responders, grief, men’s issues, pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum, racial identity, self harming (non-suicidal self injurious behavior), transgender care, veterans care, women’s issues (PMDD, PCOS, perimenopause, menopause, etc.)

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Ralph Waldo Emerson Hello. I am Tina, a Nurse Practitioner who is board-certified in Psychiatry, Family, and Midwifery. I am experienced in treating a variety of psychiatric conditions, such as Disorders of Mood and Anxiety, Children and Adolescents, Schizophrenia, and Dual-Diagnosis, as well as Women’s Health, including during pregnancy. I boast a very diverse work history, passion for people, and an integrative approach to caring for the whole patient across the lifespan. In my free time, you can find me hustling up kids and chickens, “reading” a good audiobook or multi-tasking my way through life. I am a graduate of Vanderbilt and Emory University where I completed a doctorate in nursing practice and multiple nursing degrees. My path to success has been and remains humble. Since 2005, I have worked in a variety of settings from the emergency department and Pediatrics to Family and Women’s health as well as inpatient and outpatient Psychiatry. My training and experiences in both federally qualified health centers and private practice settings that had limited access to psychiatric providers ignited my passion to provide safe, affordable, quality mental health care no matter where a patient may be literally and figuratively. Located near Emory and Mercer, I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship problems and PTSD. I also work well with adult children of alcoholics and other dysfunctional family backgrounds. I strive to help students adapt to change, increase self-worth, and clarify goals for the future. My practice is very diverse, including individuals from LGBTQ and non-majority cultural groups. I aim to work WITH clients in a manner that honors their intersecting identities. For over 20 years, I have worked mostly with young adults -- graduate and undergraduate students, new parents, and couples seeking meaningful connection. You can contact me by email (raj@rajphd.com), leave a message on my confidential voicemail (not linked to text), or visit my website at rebeccajonesphd.com. I offer a free telephone consultation so we can decide together if it makes sense to set up a first appointment. I am also available to suggest other referrals in the community.
My focus is to help individuals embrace their challenges, validate them and learn to put them in a compartment of normalcy so that they can emerge from their past trauma and learn to thrive again. I guide the process at the pace and level acceptable and comfortable for each individual, pulling from a variety of modalities. Every person has a unique situation encompassing mental, financial, psychological and emotional challenges, all of which I manage individually.
I am passionate working with LGBTQ and transgender clients, and I affirm my clients. I am a WAPTH GEI certified provider. You might know who are but need to process how to get there. Anxiety about whether your family, friends or work will accept you could consume you. It can become hard to sleep and hard to look in the mirror sometimes. You need to have the courage to be yourself in your own identity and overcome your anxiety. I can help. I use mindful self-compassion, solution focused therapy and CBT to practice the tools that will allow you to be who you really are and be calm and proud of yourself and happy. I work with the LGBTQIA community as an affirming therapist who understands the community. I specialize in working with transgender and non-binary clients as well as clients that are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about work, school, home or friends. I also write gender affirming hormone and surgery letters for my clients. As part of my practice, I offer expert and convenient care for my clients in person in Decatur, GA and video throughout Georgia and South Carolina and Florida. Schedule appointments online anytime at my website www.katieleikam.com or call or email for a free consultation. I am here for my clients to have the courage to be who they are.
My job is about hope. I help students struggling with anxiety, depression, or stress. These symptoms can interfere with your schoolwork and wellness. Many of my former clients tell me that they were surprised and relieved to feel so much better after therapy. They were unsure if they would ever find relief from the challenges they had. That is why I do what I do. It is a joy to share in that journey of healing. I have found the most important thing is to tailor my approach to each person's specific needs. Therapy is not one size fits all. For example, I often find expressive arts to be helpful when overcoming trauma. I also have a special place in my heart for those who struggle with eating disorders and self harm.
