At Journey Life Counseling, your experience will be individualized to meet your needs. We will explore your goals and find ways to achieve them in a way that is manageable and practical for you. You may not have been able to choose your past, but you can choose to make changes in the present and create a better future. Let’s learn more about your story and what has led you here, and explore what comes next, together.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by anger you couldn’t control, or so stressed that sleep felt impossible? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to go through it alone. I hear you. Your emotional well-being matters, and I’m here to support you in becoming a healthier, more grounded version of yourself. I hold a graduate degree in Counseling from Michigan State University and have experience working with college students and adults facing concerns such as anger management, stress, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, multicultural challenges, and childhood trauma. I believe healing happens best in a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment, where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. In therapy, I focus on truly understanding your story. Together, we will explore what’s happening within you, increase self-awareness, and develop practical coping skills tailored to your needs. Our work will be collaborative and goal-oriented, helping you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, fulfilled, and alive in your daily life. I offer therapy in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese(我提供中英文咨询服务), and I am mindful of cultural identity and multicultural experiences in the therapeutic process. I also offer flexible scheduling to better fit your needs. If you’re looking for support with emotional regulation, stress, or personal growth, I would be honored to walk alongside you. Feel free to reach out by email to learn more or schedule a consultation.
I believe that a core piece of psychotherapy is coming to truly see yourself, and allowing others (the therapist, at first) to see you as well. I practice psychodynamic therapy, which means that I am curious about your emotions, your past experiences, the intricacies of your mind and unconscious, and your imagination. Some people need to be listened to in therapy, others need to be told certain things, and often people need a little of both. I try to discern what is needed by each patient as best I can.
Life can be overwhelming when you are balancing the demands of being a student, parent, partner, or professional. These roles become even more complex when trauma, substance use, anxiety, or depression are part of the picture. If you feel like these challenges are making it harder to navigate your daily life, please know that you don’t have to manage them alone. At Joshua Colby Counseling, I provide a safe, affirming space where evidence-based practice meets genuine human connection. My goal is to offer real, proven solutions tailored to your unique experiences—including concerns surrounding sexuality and identity. Whether you are looking to process past experiences or develop tools for a better future, I am here to support your growth without judgment. If you are ready to take that next step, reach out today. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you achieve the life you deserve.

Our clinicians are trained in numerous evidence based and best practices including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care.
I offer virtual (online) sessions only at this time. Some sessions can be made by appointment if openings are not noted on my calendar - just ask! Sometimes the anxiety and depression that come with life changes, trauma, relationship issues or job stress can be distracting and affect our ability to thrive. When people work through their thoughts and feelings, they often report feeling more clarity and a deeper sense of vitality and purpose. You can expect to be gently challenged to explore your experiences in a safe, kind and private space when you work with me. I've helped people find more confident self expression in decision-making and relationships. I've also had people report performing better in sports, school or the arts. Many people find themselves making better, more positive behavioral changes as they feel better emotionally. I use an eclectic mix of theories, often including psychodynamic work, in therapy to include the entire person: mind, body and soul. I try to educate and empower people to use practical tools they learn in therapy in realistic, lifelong ways. It takes courage to be vulnerable and acknowledge you'd like some help along this journey. I know because I've been there myself. Take the first step and I'll meet you there.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've been carrying the weight of anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, identity questions, or overwhelming emotions for a long time. You don't have to navigate those challenges alone. I work with young adults who are ready to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, and create lasting change. Whether you're navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, personality concerns, life transitions, or questions surrounding identity, therapy can provide both practical tools and a space to process what you've been through. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each person. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while recognizing that every person's experiences and goals are unique.
Do you feel something is missing from your life? Do you feel you have lost your way and are unsure where to go next? Do you find yourself asking: “where did I go wrong” or “what matters to me anymore?” Clients may find their usual coping skills are no longer sufficient, have unintentionally relinquished their autonomy, be stuck due to unaddressed trauma, or have never found the time to look within and get to know themselves. Sessions with me are oriented around thought-provoking questions and free association. The process is highly client-driven as anything on your mind could merit deeper exploration. My preference is always to seek out the root problems, or at least the symptoms and patterns that will grant us the most headway. This process can take time, but my goal is for you to leave therapy with enough self-assurance and resilience to be your own therapist!

Give me a call or send me an email and let’s get started in your way to freedom, health and life.
