I am looking forward to connecting with college-aged individuals who are beginning or continuing their therapy journey. I am pulled toward practicing therapy in this transitional phase of life because I know that young adulthood is filled with many questions about identity, friendship, self-esteem, relationships, classes, and careers. Awareness of individuality and childhood norms grows during his developmental phase, which can lead to experiencing many mental health symptoms. I believe in empowering each person to grow into the truest form of themselves and live life to the fullest. I utilize a trauma informed approach in my practice and tend to use modalities such as CBT, mindfulness, meditation, emotion-based therapy, EMDR, and IFS. I currently work at Allow Therapy Partners in the Rockford Office. I love to do in person appointments and I am also available for virtual sessions. Please reach out! I am happily accepting new clients at this time.

Attending college can be an exciting time and also a challenging time. Adjusting to so many life transitions and managing the stress that comes with these transitions can become overwhelming. Counseling assists you with the adjustment process, helps with finding solutions, learning healthy coping skills and identifying and modifying faulty thinking patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety and depression. Counseling can also help you define life goals, career plans, resolve relationship issues. You don't have to manage these stressful situations alone. Together we can work through any issues holding you back from fully enjoying the college experience.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with more than 17 years of experience providing counseling and social work services to children, teens, adults, and families. My experience includes supporting clients dealing with adjusting to life changes and stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationships. Since completing a Sport Social Work Certification through the University of Michigan in 2022, I have added supporting athletes with their unique mental health and sports performance needs. Beginning therapy means different things to different people, but it is often an action of courage, hope, self-care, and self-determination. I value the importance of highlighting and exploring the unique strengths and resilience in each individual to help encourage hope, confidence, healing, and growth. My therapeutic approach is rooted in client-centered therapy, emphasizing the exploration of what holds personal meaning for each individual with the emphasis on becoming self-aware and in tune with self. My goal is to provide genuine clinical support via teletherapy tailored to help clients achieve their personal goals in processing their focus of therapy while recognizing the importance of holistic wellness and addressing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of well-being to foster a sense of overall wellness.

Are you on the struggle bus and can’t find a way off? Adult-ing is hard, amiright?! Most of my clients are young adults navigating ALL.THE.THINGS while trying to make everyone else happy. Spoiler alert: THIS ISN’T SUSTAINABLE!! Our work together is to guide you in sorting through all the mental muck, tapping into the most authentic version of you. I am not your typical therapist. Well, I do like cardigans and wide rimmed glasses. I also like to laugh a lot and cuss a little, or cuss a lot and laugh a little—depends on the day! Either way, you will receive my most authentic self, honesty in your journey, and a depth of specialized trainings to guide your experience. So, if you feel ready to reach out and get on the path to being enough/good enough and living your best life for YOU, instead of everyone else—email me. Email is the easiest and fastest way to connect with me.

My name is Erick Pena. I struggled with depression and anxiety for about 20 years, and it wasn't until I read a book called "Getting Past Your Past" by Francine Shapiro that everything started to make sense. As a therapist, I offer traditional talk therapy, but I am incredibly passionate about EMDR therapy. I believe that in the same way talk and EMDR therapy have helped me deal with the negative symptoms that plagued my life for so long, they can also help you.

I believe life is a process. Many things occur during this process. The challenge is our perspective and how we chose to look at life. There are times when the lenses through which we use to view life are clouded, but with the proper adjustments our vision can be much clearer. My goal is not to change you but to help facilitate the change that you desire. For some, this may take a few sessions and for others it may take longer. I am willing to get down in the trenches with you and bring you to the place where you desire to be. I am dedicated to bringing out the best in you.

Therapy is the ultimate form of self care. It can lead to radical self-acceptance, allowing you to manifest the positive goals you have for your life. Seeking therapy traditionally has had barriers, and I know breaking those barriers will create a better, more accessible, revolutionary, and empathic society. My clinical interests include working with LGBTQIA+ issues, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, domestic violence, and times of adjustment and change. I come from person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-focused modalities. I utilize an eclectic approach in our sessions, as each client is different. I believe in a therapeutic relationship that is equal and balanced. Our goals will be mutual and dynamic. You are an expert in your life, and I look forward to working together to create the healthy and positive change you see for yourself.
