I specialize in overthinking, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome. Clients who come to me often struggle with feeling “enough.". They often feel an imbalance in their lives and are quick to sacrifice self-care for others or in the face of stress. They feel their emotions strongly and sometimes feel controlled by them, leaving them often emotionally and physically drained. My clients are ready to create change in their lives and feel more peace of mind.

My name is Joseph B. Alexander, LMFT and I have a private practice called Footprints Counseling in Winston-Salem, NC. I have been licensed as an LMFT since 2007 and doing full-time counseling since 2009. I work with individuals, families, and couples and also work with kids 9 years old and above. It is important to me to listen to my clients and help them process and address the areas that are bringing them. I know it is a huge step to reach out and I would be happy to journey alongside with you.
If you are having trouble fitting in or confirming to expectations, but still crave a sense of belonging, this is where we can sort it out with warm affirming care. I have 16 years of experience supporting marginalized individuals to learn effective self advocacy techniques and feel comfortable and safe in their current life. All while remaining hopeful about the future! Maybe you are an older person who is adjusting to a life that is different than what you are used to, or a neuro-divergent individual that is stressed out about social expectations, or a LGBTQ+ person looking for support to live as your authentic self. Sometimes our biggest road block to feeling content is ourselves. The way we think about our trauma, and treat our bodies are the first two areas I will explore with you. We will make a plan to be well everyday while you navigate relationships with peers, partners, family and caregivers. We will practice coping strategies to manage overwhelming expectations and most importantly strive for self acceptance.
We specialize in treating anxiety, depression, OCD and addiction associated with eating behaviors, body image and body dissatisfaction. Our focus is to help you heal your relationship with food, eating and body image. I will walk alongside you in this journey of self-empowerment to find peace with food and your body.
Hello everyone and welcome to your new beginning. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for considering me in your therapy journey. This can be a nerve-wrecking and uncertain decision and I'm honored to be your potential therapist. I’m a rostered TF-CBT therapist and practice through a trauma-informed lens, helping clients feel safe, seen, and empowered. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I meet you where you are and help you build insight, resilience, and practical tools. Whether you're looking to process the past or manage the present more effectively, therapy can be a space where healing begins and real change takes root!
Waking up each day to feel the weight of society’s expectations on your shoulders is overwhelming. There are times where you begin to wonder where you belong and if there is a place you can really be yourself. You were never given the opportunity to discover your true self and now you’re wondering who you really are! So many aspects of how you were raised and the things you experienced are holding onto you and keeping you from embracing new paths in your life. At times, it can be lonely navigating life while finding yourself, unlearning toxic beliefs, and learning to love the person you’re meant to be. But life is a journey! You deserve to wake up excited for the day and all of its possibilities. You are worthy of taking the time to stop and find yourself and discover who you want to be. It’s okay to acknowledge where you came from and the events that shaped you while also striving for a different path. It’s okay to question the ideals you grew up with and it’s okay to challenge the ones you feel don’t fit with who you want to be now! This is your life and you deserve to be in control of it. If any of that describes how you’re currently feeling, I would love to join you on your journey to self discovery. Finding yourself and your place in life can be challenging work but you do not have to do it alone. If you feel you’re ready to begin the journey, I am here to walk with you!
Many of my clients feel overwhelmed, anxious, or simply “not like themselves.” They’re often balancing work, family, school, or major life transitions while trying to keep everything together. You may be experiencing mood changes, sleep concerns, or mental exhaustion, and you’re ready to feel more balanced, confident, and in control again. I provide compassionate, culturally responsive care to help you gain clarity, stability, and peace. I’m currently accepting new clients and would be honored to support you on your healing journey.

Student life can be complicated but it doesn't have to be. Navigating personal and emotional concerns and relationships while focusing on academics, athletics or work/family-life balance often requires support and patience. Some students do this well, while others benefit from someone from the outside who provides them with a non-judgemental space to sort through and make sense of it all. Together we will identify the source of your concerns, and how we can work together to make sense of the thoughts, feelings and actions which are getting in the way of your personal and professional goals. I have worked with college students in many capacities and hope that my experience can help me to help you find a way through depression, anxiety, stress or life transitions.
I deeply value the therapeutic relationship and strive to help clients better understand themselves. By creating safety and comfort within our relationship, we can more deeply explore familial, platonic and romantic relationships while also exploring clients' identities and feelings of worth.
