Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
If you're looking to understand yourself and your emotions better, process life experiences or transitions, work through relational wounds, and develop greater self-confidence, stop here! My name is Brittany Roberts and I am passionate about helping young adult women in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina navigate life and all of the unique challenges that it may bring. Many of the women I work with express that they are dissatisfied with their current circumstances which may fuel anxiety and depression. I am here to help!
My clients often come to me when their familiar ways of understanding and approaching life, faith, health, or beauty are no longer working for them and are causing them harm. I specialize in work with people of all sizes and genders who struggle with food and body concerns, and with people who may have experienced violence, hurt, or neglect in their lives. I particularly enjoy supporting people in the LGBTQ community.
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. As a friendly and compassionate therapist, I work with individuals ages 10 to 65, offering support through a person-centered approach and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Whether you're a child, teen, young adult, or adult, my goal is to create a safe space where you can explore challenges, build healthy coping skills, and improve communication in your daily life. I also offer school counseling resources, including guidance on navigating 504 plans, to help students and families feel more confident and supported. Wherever you are on your journey, I’m here to walk alongside you.
I work with young adults who often look like they have it completely together on the outside, but on the inside are carrying what feels like an impossible weight. You might find yourself stuck in cycles of perfectionism, over-functioning, or constant people-pleasing. You may be navigating grief for the first time, feel like the world is stacked against you and just need a place to feel like you're not alone.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in North Carolina, I am committed to supporting individuals through a client-centered approach that respects and honors each person’s unique experiences and goals. I believe that within everyone lies the innate potential for healing and growth, and my role is to provide compassionate, tailored support to help you access those inner resources. My approach to therapy is flexible and integrative, drawing from evidence-based practices such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness and Somatic Therapies, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I work collaboratively to identify your priorities and design a treatment plan that aligns with your strengths, needs, and aspirations. I focus on creating a calm, safe environment to foster reflection and ease during our sessions. I am attentive to your communication style and will adapt as needed to ensure that you feel heard, understood, and supported. My ultimate goal is to empower you in your healing journey and help you develop practical skills to manage distress and clarify your path toward a more meaningful, fulfilling life.
If you are having trouble fitting in or confirming to expectations, but still crave a sense of belonging, this is where we can sort it out with warm affirming care. I have 16 years of experience supporting marginalized individuals to learn effective self advocacy techniques and feel comfortable and safe in their current life. All while remaining hopeful about the future! Maybe you are an older person who is adjusting to a life that is different than what you are used to, or a neuro-divergent individual that is stressed out about social expectations, or a LGBTQ+ person looking for support to live as your authentic self. Sometimes our biggest road block to feeling content is ourselves. The way we think about our trauma, and treat our bodies are the first two areas I will explore with you. We will make a plan to be well everyday while you navigate relationships with peers, partners, family and caregivers. We will practice coping strategies to manage overwhelming expectations and most importantly strive for self acceptance.

Bright View Counseling was founded in 2020 by Michael Clark-Borenstein LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with the mission of bringing a better counseling experience to the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. After struggling through the challenges we all faced in 2020 and continue to face in 2021 due to the global pandemic, therapy and counseling have become something we could all benefit from having more of. If you or your child have been struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, work or life-related stress, behavioral changes, or simply struggling to adjust to the big changes we all faced this past year, you are not alone. We’re breaking the traditional mold of talk therapy and counseling and bringing a new, brighter idea of what therapy could and should look like with our ‘Therapy With A Twist!’ approach. Our therapy approach is holistic, humanistic, and person-focused. We bring the power of the natural world into the therapeutic process. We take walks outside, participate in outdoor activities with clients, and integrate activities and games. We also get a helping paw from our office dog, Charlotte, who comes into sessions to provide a furry friend to hug, pet, and receive emotional support from. We’ve adopted all of these practices to continue to work with teletherapy as well. We take virtual walks, have outdoor virtual sessions, and have even participated in virtual fishing! Our outlook on the client-therapist relationship differs from other counseling services. At Bright View Counseling, we forge a trusting relationship with clients. Therapy can be an intimidating process for new clients. We strive to create a casual, comfortable environment where our clients can feel safe and free to express themselves honestly and openly without fear of judgment.
Welcome! As a therapist, mom, social worker, and military spouse, my work has been shaped by the unique challenges and rewards that come with being part of this complex community. I understand the intricacies of military life from a deeply personal perspective, and this experience drives my passion for supporting military members and their families. With experience working within the Department of Veterans Affairs, I’ve gained invaluable insight into the struggles many in this community face—post-traumatic stress, relationship challenges, transition issues, and navigating the mental health system. I know how these challenges can impact not only service members but their loved ones as well. Whether you’re a service member working through the emotional toll of your experiences, a spouse seeking support in navigating military life, or a family member looking for an additional outlet, I’m here to provide compassionate, tailored support. My approach is rooted in research-based techniques that are flexible, trauma-informed, and personalized to your unique needs. I’m committed to walking alongside you on your journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery.
Charlie Health is a virtual behavioral health program for adolescents and young adults with moderate or severe mental health concerns or co-occurring substance use or eating disorders. Designed to meet the needs of those who require more than weekly therapy, our program combines curated group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy into personalized treatment programs. We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.

You are doing the most! If it feels like there is no good news right now, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe you feel like you're tired of talking about what is bothering you and you want to start feeling better. Therapy is a safe place where you can talk about your feelings. This is a judgment-free zone and welcomes all who wish to expand their sense of self. My role is to connect with you so that you can experience your thoughts and feelings in a way that is different from how you do it at home or with your friends. I look forward to meeting you and listening to everything you have to say.
The students I work best with are often trying to hold everything together while quietly feeling overwhelmed. You may be adjusting to college life, struggling to balance school, work, relationships, and family expectations, or simply wondering why this stage of life feels harder than you expected. I work with students experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, major life changes, and difficulty adjusting to college. You might find yourself overthinking, putting pressure on yourself to succeed, comparing your progress to others, feeling uncertain about your future, or having trouble finding your place. Sometimes, you may not even know exactly what is wrong—you just know you don’t feel like yourself. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, understand what you’re experiencing, and develop healthier ways to manage the pressure. My goal is to help you feel more confident in yourself, better equipped to handle stress, and more connected to the life you want to build.

Sims Counseling & Consulting is a sanctuary for holistic and integrative mental health. At Sims, we go beyond conventional psychotherapy, weaving mindfulness, art, meditation, yoga, movement, and somatic experiencing into the fabric of our services. Here, we believe in nurturing the complete being – mind, body, and soul. Every now and then life has a way of hitting us hard. We believe that when individuals enter counseling they are feeling gridlocked in their current situation and need assistance navigating their way out of the storms. We see counseling as a process by which I guide my client in exploration and identification of their needs. Through cognitive and somatic techniques we help raise clients' awareness of ineffective behaviors, toxic cycles, and distorted thinking patterns that may be standing in the way of the changes they desire in life. We believe that transformation begins when we slow down, tune into our bodies, and honor what comes up. We have experience supporting emerging adults and college students, let's get started!
