Therapists for college students near New York University
Emily Kessler
College can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming and uncertain at times. I often work with students who feel weighed down by the pressures of school, relationships, and figuring out their next steps in life. Many of my clients want to feel more confident and at ease but find themselves stuck in stress or self-doubt. I offer a welcoming space where you can talk openly, sort through challenges, and learn practical ways to feel more grounded and connected in your daily life. I look forward to meeting you!

Too much stress can be overwhelming and will affect our concentration, stamina, and clarity of mind. The very nature of trauma is the experience of too much, a feeling of being overwhelmed. My specialty is in Creativity and Trauma and how one informs the other. This is not easy work, but it can be fun. We use what is called a Bottom Up approach, in combination with a Top Down. What this means is we learn to tune into our body brain and not just our head brain. As a Creative Arts psychotherapist and trauma specialist I've discovered ways to work that help you heal, feel better, and help you make more sense out of your life. When we meet first we find out what is going on, what has gone on, and how we want to use our time together. We can continue to talk; we may include some of the modalities in which I am trained (Art Therapy, EMDR...). It depends on what you are most comfortable with, and fits your particular issues and concerns Please know I am exclusively working online
Wander Counseling
With 15 years’ experience as a bilingual Psychotherapist working with very diverse populations from adults to adolescents who experience depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD I learned that not everyone feels comfortable going to speak to a therapist in a traditional setting like an office. This is why I offer “Walk Talk Therapy” and mobile therapy. I want to eliminate as many barriers as possible for you to get the help you need. Just as we are all encouraged to exercise for our physical health, I believe everyone should connect with a professional therapist to strengthen one’s emotional health. My goal is to support clients in becoming the best version of themselves. I see therapy as a tool to support and motivate clients in taking control of their lives. I believe that therapy is truly for everyone- you do not need to have a major problem to start therapy. Therapy can be a place where we discuss the good things happening in your life! However, starting therapy is a vulnerable process. I am here to support your experiences and to provide you with the tools to better cope with situations. I focus on exploring clients' inner voices and beliefs that dictate how we interpret situations. I work with young adults and adults. I work mainly with issues around self worth, communication, anxiety, and life transitions. I have a background in education and empathize with young adults and adults striving for perfectionism. I also feel passionately about helping young adults feel empowered and find happiness and success in their careers and the corporate world. As a Jewish therapist, I bring a strong appreciation for how culture, identity, and personal values shape the way we move through the world. I aim to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can show up fully as yourself—whether you’re navigating school stress, relationships, family dynamics, or figuring out who you want to be in this next chapter of your life.

Share your college struggle with me, and I will provide you with a safe space to grow. Privately and at your pace we will explore who you are inside, carefully unpacking what is at the root of every worry, your sadness, anger, or any other uncomfortable experience during this initial foray into adulthood. We will suss out your internal conflicts by exploring your attempts to master problems of the past by repeating patterns in the present, working your known issues toward resolution. No trauma is too great or too small for us to talk about. Our efforts will impart more freedom and equanimity in your choices, and open you up to feel more passionate and alive. I use an active relational psychoanalytic approach to therapeutically make meaning of psychological and emotional difficulties through an ongoing conversation. You simply talk about what is bothering you and free associate to your life. Collaboratively, we will examine how and why your patterns in living, though intelligent adaptations and defenses that once helped you to survive, may no longer serve you, so that you may accept and care for yourself and have a richer, fuller life. Our alliance will help you find balance in work, love and play, and will develop your agency to manage every life challenge with autonomy and self-confidence. Psychoanalysis offers lasting change, and finding just the right therapist for you is essential to the process. Reach out for a free consultation today to see if we make a good fit.

I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.

I offer compassionate and transformative psychotherapy to individuals 18+ throughout the lifespan, drawing upon both traditional and innovative tools to provide highly individualized and attuned support. I have expertise working with anxiety (including social anxiety), life transitions, grief, trauma, work-related stress, family conflicts, and relationship issues. I also work frequently with spirituality and religion, multicultural issues, adjustment disorder, and concerns relating to college students and recent graduates. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nearly 15 years of professional experience. I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Religious Studies and graduating Cum Laude. I received my Master in Social Work degree at NYU. I have a certificate in Relational Psychotherapy and utilize mindfulness-based tools like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In addition, I have trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems) level 1 and the beginning and intermediate levels of Somatic Experiencing (a body-based approach), innovative therapeutic tools that I incorporate into my work. If a client already working with a primary therapist wishes to pursue an adjunct treatment focusing specifically on SE or IFS, I can design a therapy program to support these goals. I also provide adjunct therapy specifically targeting social anxiety. Before transitioning to private practice, I was a staff therapist at Columbia University Counseling and Psychological Services for eight years. I have extensive experience offering psychotherapy to adults of all ages, leading groups focused on creating connections and managing anxiety, and presenting virtual and in-person workshops to large audiences in professional and educational contexts. At this time, I see clients via telehealth throughout New York State and do not offer in-person sessions. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss how I may support you.
