At the heart of psychotherapy is accompaniment through one’s inner world. Current difficulties, past struggles, individual and familial traumas, hidden hopes and dreams – all of this will be central to making sense of your present and building toward your future. Starting psychotherapy can feel intimidating, but the benefits can be huge: deeper self-understanding, more meaningful and authentic relationships, reduced depression and anxiety, increased self-confidence. I have worked with a diverse swath of undergrad and graduate students in college counseling centers, and have studied and taught at private and public universities across the country. My specializations include relationship struggles, family conflict and crisis, identity development, career direction, academic concerns, gender and sexuality, trauma, spirituality, creativity, chronic illness, immigration, and LGBTQIA+ issues in teens and adults. I am committed to meeting you where you are at in the therapeutic process, and I welcome exploration of racial, sexual, and gender identities. I am a Harvard Medical School Psychiatry fellow trained in psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness-based therapies, but I believe a strong sense of connection is the most important element in seeking a therapist. I encourage you to reach out to a number of practitioners to find a good match. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many college students feel stressed, anxious, or unsure how to handle everything on their own. Between classes, friendships, family expectations, and figuring out what comes next, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or stuck. Therapy gives you a space to process what you’re experiencing, understand yourself more clearly, and build coping skills that actually work in your day-to-day life. I offer virtual sessions, which makes it easier to fit therapy into your schedule wherever you are. My style is warm, supportive, and practical, and we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

College can be fun and extremely challenging at the same time. It is a major step in your life and it comes with many new life transitions and independence! Many students I work with experience anxiety, stress, and feelings of overwhelm as they navigate academic pressures, social changes, and personal development. They may also struggle with issues related to self-esteem, identity, and relationships. Students often benefit from a supportive and understanding environment where they can explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. My approach focuses on helping students gain clarity, build confidence, and create a balanced and fulfilling college experience. By addressing their specific needs and experiences, I aim to empower students to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

My work in the field of counseling began in 1992 and I have been a clinician in practice for over 25 years. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and supporting them on their journey to improved balance in life. My therapeutic approach is person centered. I work closely with clients to help them connect with their values, gain personal insight, understanding and self-compassion. With a trauma-informed mindset, I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment. This entails a blend of treatment interventions designed to best match individual needs. I draw inspiration from the work of colleagues like: Brene Brown, Bessel Van der Kolk, Gabor Mate, Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. These individuals are leaders in the field of counseling and therapy. They are the inspiration that has helped build my foundation for an enduring and balanced practice. My counseling background includes work with adults, college students, children and families, couples, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families, as well as disabled adults. In my current work, I focus on helping individuals rebuild a foundation from which to grow from. Because I am a firm believer in the power of yoga, self-reflection, and meditation; when appropriate, I weave Eastern Philosophies into treatment. For example, the body holds trauma in seven main body parts (pelvis, diaphragm, throat, jaw, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck). With the application of some yoga, meditation, and mindful attention, we can help the body release underlying trapped feelings so that healing can begin.
I am an independent licensed mental health counselor that has experience helping young adults achieve improved mental health. I have years of experience treating trauma, anxiety and depression. Whether it's school stress, relationships or past issues, I would be happy to help you reach your mental health goals. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email for more information.
Swaroopa Dundon is a psychotherapist based in Westchester, NY, who works with teens and adults across the lifespan. She helps clients gently explore their thoughts and emotions to uncover the root causes of challenges such as anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and low self-esteem. Maybe you’ve been the “easy kid” — the one who doesn’t make waves, keeps it together, and takes care of everyone else. On the outside, you look fine. Inside, you feel unseen, weighed down, or like no one really gets you. I’m Citlali (seet-la-lee), but most call me Lali (like lollipop) a therapist who helps young adults with parents who can’t always show up emotionally. In therapy, you don’t have to pretend or be “the strong one.” This is a space just for you — to talk about what’s real, to figure out who you are, and to feel supported instead of alone. Reach out to schedule your free 15 minute intro call to see if we're a good fit together! I look forward to connecting soon :)
