College can be a time of fun and excitement, but it can also be a time of stress and anxiety. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here at Village Therapy Practice, LLC who works hard to help clients (individuals, couples, and families) feel heard, understood, and validated. Using a systemic approach, I help each of my clients identify the underlying root cause of their struggles- such as depression, anxiety, adjustment, or relationship issues- and work to change the unhealthy patterns that keep them stuck in conflict. As a Penn State graduate myself (We Are!), I would love the opportunity to walk along students through this important journey!
I enjoy working with various populations in age, race, cultural experiences, and mental health needs. I thrive working with middle adolescents, young to middle-age adults, and college students. My professional experience is anchored in my passion for working with individuals from the BIPOC community.

My favorite part of helping people is collaborating with my clients. I work together with students to help them reach their goals, get some relief and learn new ways to cope. As a licensed professional counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor, my approach is both nurturing and strengths-based. I believe that every person is unique and has the ability to cope and heal. As your therapist, I will help you strategize to develop treatment goals and offer warm support as we get you there. In doing so, I primarily use IFS (Internal Family Systems- I’m Level 2-trained), but my approach can also be eclectic. I support people with anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem issues, family conflict, substance use disorders, OCD, trauma and so much more. I am non-judgmental, supportive and have a gentle style. If you would like to hear more about my approach and to discuss whether we can work together, I’d love to hear from you.
Do you want to speak with someone who is compassionate and understanding? I will not only listen to you but will help you develop the right skills to effectively deal with whatever comes your way in the future.

I hold a Bachelor's (BS) in Psychological and Social Sciences from Pennsylvania State University. I also hold two Master's Degrees from Rider University: a Master's (MA) in Counseling Services and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) Master's Degree. I have been counseling for the past 17 years in various capacities ranging from counseling in schools to counseling in the community. My counseling style is eclectic because I utilize many different therapeutic strategies based off of the needs of the individuals I am working with during the session. Some of my counseling theory styles consists of: cognitive, behavioral, person-centered, positive psychology, reality, solution-focused, mindfulness, motivational interviewing and psycho-education components. In other words, I have many ways for helping individuals to deal with their struggles or with whatever is challenging them. My approach focuses on thought processes, behaviors, and action plans. I also find ways to creatively use your interests (such as: music, hobbies, movies, and etc.) in the solution process. Most importantly, during every counseling session I strive for my clients to take away something new or something that can utilize outside of counseling in everyday life.
When many people begin therapy, they don't know where to start. That is totally normal and no one I see needs to have all the answers right now. The people I work with often are going through a tough transition, experiencing stress at school, struggling with feelings of anxiety or depression, or they may have had something really distressing happen to them. Often, they may be noticing patterns of avoidance, procrastination, and self-shaming. Sometimes they're also experiencing stress in their relationships. Whatever is happening, I honor how challenging the process of reaching out for support can be, and I am here to help by working together with those who come to my practice. I specialize in attachment based EMDR therapy, which is incredibly useful for addressing distressing events (in the past or present); chronic stress, severe anxiety, and feeling like you are "stuck" on an issue that just doesn't seem to go away. It can also help resolve old wounds that are impacting current relationships. I'm here to help make the process of beginning therapy easier and help create a sense of safety by collaborating with you to address your needs. I also respect that paying for therapy can be complicated. To help, I offer a service where I can submit billing info to a service that files documentation with your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursements. If eligible, you may be able to receive a portion of your money back for therapy, making payment easier. I am also able to check to see if you're eligible for reimbursement. If you are a student in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Florida, the next step is to email or call me today. I look forward to connecting!

At Terra Firma, our mission is also our greatest passion: to help you recognize how awesome you really are, and that you’re capable of anything you put your mind to! We want to help you evolve into the version of you who feels seen, heard, and understood; the one who feels confident, happy, and whole. But you absolutely can and we're here to help you get there! Your relationships, career, hobbies, diet and exercise, spiritual beliefs, etc. etc. are all interacting to create the current version of you. In our holistic therapy approach, we shirk the mindset that you are a narrow range of symptoms to be treated, and instead look at you as a whole person. Our approach is built on empathy and compassion, and is designed to arm you with the wellness tools needed to help you tackle the various battles you may be facing along your holistic journey to happiness.

Hi! My name is Shira Collings (she/they). I specialize in working with clients with eating disorders, disordered eating, body image distress, and those wanting to break free from diet culture. As a diet culture dropout myself, I am passionate about supporting others in finding freedom with food and body acceptance. I am also passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent folks, as well as those with substance use and trauma histories. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the Health At Every Size paradigm and body liberation. It is also informed by feminism, disability justice, and queer and trans liberation. I believe that healing comes from feeling heard, seen, and valued, and I strive to create a space in which clients can express their full, authentic selves. I have training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I also have a background working in disability and mental health advocacy and regularly incorporate advocacy into the counseling process. Additionally, I have training in trauma therapies including Narrative Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I’d be honored to be a part of your journey! Please feel free to visit our website to see if I might be a good fit.
I have a passion for working with people who want to live more fulfilling lives with a more genuine connection to themselves and others. My clients feel more empowered in their actions and relationships instead of letting their unhelpful thoughts and behaviors take over, while growing a more accepting and compassionate perspective towards themselves. It’s always a good session when my clients feel challenged and motivated to work towards their goals between sessions. I believe that much of the therapy work is completed between sessions just as much as it is in the hour minutes we will spend together each week. As a therapist, I’m not afraid of bearing witness to your pain and fear while finding ways to recognize joy and hope. I truly believe in each of my clients’ ability to grow and change. As an Exposure-based therapist, I’ll encourage you to take steps to approach your fears and reclaim your life. As a woman of color, I am sensitive to the ways that identity and mental health intersect and impact each other. I take an action-oriented and direct approach. Therapy is an investment in YOU, and I value all that my clients put into this work. I aim to “work myself out of a job” with each client, because I know that the goal isn’t to stay in treatment forever– it’s to live happier and healthier lives.

I specialize in working with folks who are curious about or identify as neurodivergent neurospicy, on the spectrum, and/or autistic (especially those who learned of this identify in adulthood), who are looking for support in processing their experiences and/or the trauma and grief that can sometimes accompany being neurodivergent in a world set up for neurotypical people. Being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world can be incredibly draining often leading to burnout with no societal accommodations to recover from that burnout. One might be left feeling less than, othered, like a failure, or broken somehow and don't know why. You are not broken. Here you can cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself in the context of neurodiversity, give yourself space to feel and heal from any harmful messages, and learn how show up in life with a deeper sense of self love and acceptance. I have 20+ years of experience in the mental health field and 7 in my private practice. I believe in deep listening, non-judgmental compassion and empathy. I want to get to know your unique experience in the world and tailor our sessions to the type of support you need. My goal is to learn about you, understand you, and help you grow without forgetting the value you bring to the world just as you are.
