I also help clients navigate life's common problems, including relationship issues, work stress, identity development, and grief. I periodically offer support groups for OCD and eating disorders. You’re motivated, emotionally intelligent, and highly self-aware, but OCD, ADHD, Trauma and big emotions stop you from thriving. And you’re sick of it. You want to go through your day without intrusive thoughts getting in the way. You want to break cycles and heal from you and your family’s pasts. You want to create new systems that work for you. You want to find connection, and grow, and flourish. Treating OCD and Trauma requires supportive guidance. The difficulties of ADHD don't get enough respect. And let's be honest, rarely are we taught how to tolerate or regulate our emotions. I'm here to help. I understand the struggles of living neuro-spicy and many of the treatments I have learned and utilize have benefited me as well. I am experienced with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, and appreciate the mixture of things needed to support ADHD. Whenever you're ready, reach out. I'll be happy to chat, answer questions or help connect you with the right person if I'm not it. Contact me through here, or head to my site (takerootpgh.com) and click request appointment to self-schedule a free initial consultation. I can't wait to meet you! PS. Don't give up.
[ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FOR WEDNESDAYS, SATURDAYS, AND SUNDAYS] [NOTE: I cannot accent clients who attend the University of Pittsburgh due to a conflict of interest] My mission is to join with others in pursuit of healing, empowerment, and liberation. Those who work with me are often exploring issues of gender, sexuality, and race; privilege, marginalization, and systemic oppression; complex trauma; and relationships. We often focus on alleviating the anxiety, depression, and disconnection from self and others that can come with these experiences. Together, we work towards building self-understanding so you can make decisions about your life and relationships with awareness and intention. I am a queer, agender, social justice-focused and relationally-oriented therapist. Central to my approach is curiosity about the cultural systems and personal relationships that shape your experience. I also have experience integrating tarot, ritual, and dream work as therapeutic tools. I am happy to incorporate your personal healing practices into our work. The relationship we build is our greatest tool for healing. I approach therapy as a collaborator, and work with clients to create a relationship characterized by trust, safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and warmth, humility, and genuine care. We can dream up what healing looks like and strive towards it together.
Making that first call feels like failing. You have "no time for therapy"--you're already spread thin. You've tried everything, but nothing seems to be working. And even when it does, it's only for a moment. You are ready to feel like you are thriving instead of merely surviving. ...It's a little terrifying to think about diving into the things weighing you down though, right? Ask yourself this (and be honest!): "Can I keep going like I am now? And if I do, what will that look like?" Change occurs when--despite the discomfort and not quite knowing how you'll get there--all you know is you can't keep doing what you're doing. I've been told by many clients that I really hear them. I believe in asking YOU what you'd like to gain from therapy and asking YOU about your goals--not just basing them on a diagnosis. I don't talk *at* you--I talk *with* you. I take a "real" and informal approach. Laughter, making faces or noises are all acceptable ways to express emotions! I welcome you to bring coffee (or water or tea!) and sit wherever you feel comfortable in the room. It doesn't matter your age--you can color or draw, or just sit back and drink your coffee while we chat. I have a laid back style and it's important that my therapy room is a comfortable, relaxing environment. Reach out--let's see if we may be a good fit!

I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly a decade of experience as a therapist. I specialize in treatment of complex trauma and PTSD, with Level I and Level II EMDR training. Several years ago I also completed an advanced EMDR training in somatic reprocessing, and I use awareness of the mind/body connection in much of my therapeutic treatment. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience and training in DBT and CBT, as well as trauma-focused play interventions for children. I also use these interventions to work with anxiety, mood disorders, and OCD, and have experience treating PANS and PANDAS. I have a particular passion for working with the LGBTA+ population, and offer a focus on the traumatic nature of oppression in my work. I can help transgender clients navigate medical and social transition, as well as write surgery letters. Two years ago I completed certification through the International Transgender Certification Association. I provide a warm and inviting environment where no one is judged, and everyone is free to heal and explore themselves in their own time.

I am an LPC with professional experience including over five years as a therapist and five years working in residential treatment settings, serving populations ranging from adolescents to the elderly. Asking for help or support can be scary. Making that step to get therapy takes a great deal of strength. Therapy gives people the opportunity to develop effective and healthy responses to life's stressors. I work to create a safe holding environment to allow you to feel comfortable being yourself. I work with clients to help them develop awareness over their behaviors, thoughts, patterns, and feelings. I like to get to the source rather than just focus on the symptoms. I work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship stress, parenting, ADHD, identity exploration, assertive communication, self-esteem, and grief. We will work at your pace. It's about progress, not perfection. I work with you to help you empower yourself. I offer free 15 minute consultations. If you would like a free consultation, you may email or call me. You are in charge of who you want to work with. Reach each out if you would like to explore working together.

On the outside, you’re a success- but on the inside, you're secretly miserable. Your emotional reactions are unpredictable, extreme, or out of control. You feel helpless to change and you worry that you will feel this way for the rest of your life. You may have felt depressed, anxious, or both, for years - or have a history of trauma that still affects you. You wish that you had more control over the way that you feel - that you didn’t lose it so quickly. You’d love to strengthen the meaningful relationships in your life and be able to open up more freely. And of course you’d like to reduce any self harm urges and actions. I can help you. The most frightening step is asking for help and you’re already here. I make therapy convenient with weekend/evening hours, available online to individuals residing in Pennsylvania, Kansas, and all states with enacted PSYPACT legislation (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap) Please note that clients from New Jersey are not being accepted at this time due to state legislation issues related to telehealth providers. - Level 3 trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (through Behavioral Tech) - Level 2 trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (through AEDP Institute) - Certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure (through the Department of Veterans Affairs) PLEASE NOTE: Sessions are online only.

I offer a free initial consultation and accept insurance through Headway to make getting started as easy as possible.
If it's taboo, I want to talk about it. I like to keep it real—laughter, tears, swear words. These are all useful tools in therapy, and in life. I believe that therapy is more than me asking, “How do you feel about that?” Therapy can inspire growth, change, and self-acceptance. It is a discussion. A process. An adventure (even if it’s a f*cking messy one). I can’t promise you that it won’t be a bumpy ride—the road of personal growth is often anything but smooth. But I can promise you this: I value the role I will play in your journey and I will be there for every (uneven, messy, unpleasant) step of the way. I am a LGBTQIA+ and relationship minority affirming therapist. My approach is fueled by 100% authenticity and a sincere passion for helping others arrive as their authentic selves. By arriving as MY authentic self, I can do my best work and best help you. And it is my hope that you will soon realize that your authentic self is actually "the best you", too. So, let's talk about it. The grimy. The "embarrassing". The difficult. Let's help you finally move from simply surviving day-to-day and feeling "stuck", to feeling like you are living a life of purpose and intention (yeah, that's a thing). I'd be so honored to be a part of your journey. (Just leave your swear jar at home.)
I'm a person-centered therapist with 15+ years of experience using existential, CBT, Gestalt, and counseling techniques to help you understand your mental health and handle life's stressors-with honesty, empathy, and just the right amount of humor.
