Hi! As a queer person, I know how hard it is to find a therapist you feel safe to be yourself with. As a therapist, it’s my passion to help LGBTQIA+ folks find healing and support in a safe space. My clients often feel different, broken, or struggle to find their place in a community. I help people with anxiety, depression, trauma, and dissociation find relief and contentment. If you're reading this, you're likely thinking about starting therapy (maybe even for the first time) and have questions about what lies ahead. I invite you to visit my website to book a free consultation call, or email me with any questions. I'm looking forward to connecting with you!
Our Counseling Practice: we offer outpatient, individualized, psychological care. We treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples. We are willing to use or avoid using passages from the Christian Bible in sessions. Our Treatment Focus: to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths through counseling. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. Our Patient Promise: we promise to be there for you every step of your journey. Our goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Our priority is helping you find the solution that works best for you, by listening carefully and asking the right questions before working with you to create a tailored plan to address your needs. We genuinely care about people and use the modalities and techniques that work best for the individual. We work with a wide variety of people with an even wider variety of needs. We both do a lot of work with trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, LGBTQIA challenges, and aging or life transition issues. Carol E. O. Life can sometimes throw us into situations that seem impossible to handle. Whether it’s personal relationships, work, or financial issues, it can feel like everything is falling apart. You feel inadequate and powerless as a result, like you can't manage everything on your own. Additionally, you may feel isolated and misunderstood, experiencing shame and self-blame for circumstances beyond your control. It could be a past experience that troubles you, or a current situation that is overwhelming and unmanageable.
Are you navigating an ‘it’s complicated’ relationship? Do you feel crazy, like you can’t trust yourself? Have you found out your partner has betrayed you? Are you ready to process through childhood trauma to end generational curses? It is my passion and honor to focus on women’s issues, relationship issues, and trauma. I believe in tracing symptoms to their roots. My approach to counseling is about creating a space of trust and rapport to collect dots, to connect dots, to ultimately, correct the dots. I utilize EMDR, somatic experiencing, and behavior therapy to respond to how past unresolved experiences are coming up and creating obstacles in present life. If you’re ready to do the work, you have access to freedom from things that are no longer serving you and an opportunity to move toward a brighter and more secure future.
Feel like you can't control worry? Or that you lose yourself in relationships? Perhaps you feel disconnected and loney? It doesn't have to stay that way, and you don't have to go it alone. Ready to get to the root of your struggles and experience lasting change? I specialize in working with young adults and college students who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues...or all of the above. I strive to be a solid support system for my clients and care about you immensely. And I go beyond just talk therapy with EMDR, the gold-standard treatment for trauma and anxiety.
To me, therapy is about meeting you where you are at. We can 'sit in the suck' and commiserate but from there we will build up! This is a collaborative relationship; we are colleagues working towards the same goal. I won’t try to impress you with fancy medical jargon or bore you with a lecture. I am a simple person with humble beginnings. I started my career in healthcare at 17 years old as a CNA (Certified nursing assistant) working nights at a tiny rural hospital. I moved into the Chicago suburbs to continue my education but maintained my CNA certificate by working afternoons and nights at a long-term care facility. I graduated with my Master’s in Social work in 2016 from Aurora University. During my initial years as a social worker I worked in mental health case management and hospice. Two years later I received my Licensed Clinical Social Work for the state of Illinois. Not even a month later in 2019 I moved to North Texas where it took me several more year of training before I received my clinical licensure for Texas. During that time I took several different positions to gain a better understanding of all the kinds of work a social worker is capable of. Those positions were intensive outpatient for mental health and addictions, intake, utilization review for a psychiatric hospital and home health. After gaining clinical licensure in Texas, I concentrated my focus to one on one telehealth with adults while they navigate difficult life changes. When I am not working I enjoy cooking, hiking, competing in dog sports, and tending to my plants and home with my spouse, 7 dogs, and one very old rabbit. I volunteer with the local animal shelter working with animals at risk of euthanasia due to behavior issues or medical concerns and in rescue rehabilitating struggling pets. As a clinician I use aspects of cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy and am considered person centered. I regularly provide handouts, suggest videos, or give homework to encourage therapeutic thought and action outside of our sessions. I look forward to meeting you and being part of the healing chapter of your story!

I currently have immediate openings for teletherapy and I also offer walk-and-talk sessions at the San Jose Rose Garden. I am licensed in both California and Texas. I have more than ten years of experience working with adolescents and young adults. I most frequently help my college-aged clients navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, ADHD, executive dysfunction, giftedness, self-esteem and body image issues, relationships, grief, disordered eating, and trauma. I specialize in, and especially enjoy working with, ADHD, gifted persons, and college-aged young adults. As a private practice clinician since 2012, I take an affective, strengths based, approach to therapy. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, trauma-informed care, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I work with individuals and families, and I facilitate an LGBTQ+ inclusive group for college-aged young women and non-binary persons. My style of therapy is centered, relaxed, and collaborative. It is vital to my practice that clients know they are talking to a real human being, and my client-therapist relationships are built on mutual trust and safety. I believe that mental healthcare should be holistic. To get at the whole person, I like to explore the interplay between movement, nutrition, sleep, and time spent in nature. And because mental health impacts so much of our lives, I often advocate for my clients and help coordinate support with other academic and healthcare professionals. I strongly believe that mental healthcare should be accessible and easy to navigate for everyone. I welcome clients from all communities, backgrounds, and walks of life. Outside of my home office, I am an avid hiker and eater of takeout. I’m learning to surf, and my favorite part of every day is spending time with my sixteen-year-old wiener dog.
Many people start thinking about therapy because, emotionally, they don’t feel good. Maybe your emotions end up taking you for a ride and you feel helpless to stop it. Emotions come and go, but they can sometimes feel endless, especially if they are intense. Or maybe you are struggling to get in touch with your emotions and you find it difficult to connect. Either way, what ends up making it worse is the power struggle we get into with our own emotions. We want to push away the ones that feel bad and force the ones that feel good, but that never works for long. Wouldn’t it be easier to avoid the power struggle completely?
