I spent much of my adult life working in Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic before going to the Physician Assistant program at Loma Linda University in Southern California. After graduating from there in 2018, I spent the past five years working in addiction medicine in a residential treatment program in Boulder, Colorado. Working in addiction medicine, I commonly assisted adult patients, of all ages, dealing with anxiety, depression, cravings, withdrawal symptoms and sleep challenges. Patients would often come to me wanting to reduce their amount of medications to just what was helpful and necessary and I would take a lot of pride in helping them achieve that goal. Genetic testing provides a helpful tool to initially choose, change or adjust a dose of a particular medication. I believe that it is important to meet an individual where they are in the healing process and to address the whole person rather than just the presenting problem or symptom. To address the “whole person” requires getting a detailed history and a partnership between patient and provider. Establishing such a partnership gives me great joy.

In many ways, it's a hard time to be a human being. Feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety, and directionlessness are all exceedingly common in our culture. Most of us are connected with very few people who can be role models and lead by example. Therapy can be a powerful force of change in your life if you are willing to look inside deeply and address what isn't working for you. Having a therapist who can guide this process for you is a gift. If you know the way you are showing up is not working for you, that's a great place to start therapy from. I am passionate about working with neurodivergence, relationship issues, spirituality, men's issues, and personal growth. I blend a warm presence with a direct, straight-up style of communication that helps you access what is going on inside of you and feel supported there. My approach blends Gestalt, IFS, mindfulness, humor, and radical self-responsibility. I would love to hear from you about what you are looking to get out of therapy. Call, text, or email to schedule a consultation call :)
I work with the body and the nervous system to integrate difficult experiences and regulate ourselves from the bottom up. I love to work with the inner critic (aka self-criticism), the inner child (aka reactivity), and trauma (big and small). I am passionate about helping people get to know themselves, not just find a quick fix for symptoms.
If you're struggling, I want you to know it doesn't have to be so hard, and you don't have to go it alone. Together we can begin to understand and cope with emotions and situations which can seem overwhelming. Relationships can create such powerful movement in our lives, and offer real hope. I share a profound respect for your choice to begin therapy, and will provide a non-judgmental space to express yourself. Anxiety, loss, transition -- often these struggles give us opportunity to grow and deepen our knowledge of ourselves.
As a Stanford trained psychologist, I combine insight-oriented with skill-based therapy approaches to help young adults and adults with anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms find their way back to a fulfilling life. Do you feel sad and down for no apparent reason? Do you feel all alone and as though nobody understands you or sees your pain? Do you tend to overthink things? Do uncertainties of life scare you or do you feel like you need to control your environment to feel safe. You are not alone. Through my ability to read between the lines, I can see you and help you better understand yourself. We will work through subconscious challenges that interfere with your joy in life, growth, and path to healing. I also specialize in working with individuals and their family who struggle with the diagnosis of cancer or other medical conditions. I will help you find ways to cope with fear, loss and uncertainty related to your condition and make sense of your situation productively. Let's work together to help you thrive with your disease. PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT: In addition to therapy, I provide a variety of psychological assessment services, including mental health evaluations for adults in legal proceedings (civil and criminal); psychodiagnostic evaluations to inform treatment and clarify diagnostics; and neurocognitive assessments. With my support, you will learn how to relate to familiar struggles in new ways and make changes to move toward a more satisfying and meaningful life. My skillful and compassionate approach allows you to feel challenged and cared for.
I have been in the field of mental health for over 20 years and have a passion to support people in a transition phase of life. Whether you are entering a new phase of life, becoming sober, exploring gender or sexuality, sudden loss of job or loved one, I can partner with you through this transition. If you are looking to explore values and find a path forward that feels meaningful and enriching

Feeling "not good enough"? Like no mater how hard you try, you still feel "inadequate"? You don't have to internalize this damaging societal programming. It seems to bombard us from all directions: social media, in-groups at school, family, professors, society at large. Together we'll work to replace this narrative with one of innate worthiness, internal strength, emotional intelligence, enhanced well being, and more fulfilling relationships. In addition to traditional talk therapy, we'll use proven breathing techniques and movement exercises to reduce stress, anxiety, or depression and make room for your true uninhibited self to arise.

If so, contact me, Ryan Dawson, for a complimentary consult.
Hello all! I am a therapist with extensive experience helping people heal from trauma and navigate stress. I have worked and trained all over the world - in Northern Iraq, India, and Costa Rica, helping folks heal from war trauma and violence. I now work in Denver with New Americans and immigrant families as they adjust to the US, and here in Boulder with anyone ready to heal from trauma and feel more alive. My practice is called Prosocial because it is a community-based model, which means when you come to therapy with Prosocial, you make it possible for others to access affordable, low-cost therapy. Your session gives a session, and every session counts. This is where self-care becomes community care. Find out more at my website at the bottom of this page. Let's heal together!
