About Nasiha Counseling Counseling can be a meaningful way to address some of life's challenges you are facing or have been facing for a long time. As therapists, we provide support and feedback to help you cope with current life challenges and long-standing issues. With compassion and sensitivity, we can help you explore, understand, and find resolutions to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological issues. In counseling you can also work with someone to come up with specific behavioral strategies and new ways of thinking by taking into consideration all that unique qualities that make you who you are including your beliefs, religious practices, culture and ethnicity, and traditional coping. With a wide range of clinical interventions and treatment approaches, we develop goals that are most helpful and tailored for each individual client (adult, teen, adolescent, or child), family, and couple based on their presenting concerns and needs. In a supportive and understanding environment, we can help you attain personal growth. Together with each client, we work to enhance your strengths and achieve your personal goals. Is Therapy right for me? Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore, reflect upon, and work to overcome issues or circumstances in your life with someone who can be objective yet very much invested in you becoming stronger, healthier, and happier. Counseling as a process is meant to challenge you to face and work through any difficulties you are experiencing because of either past, present, or future concerns. It is typically a weekly meeting between you and your counselor that gives you the space to have an open dialogue about what you are facing, confront your feelings in a more honest way, or to decide how you want to approach solving a problem in your life. The length of counseling is unique for each individual, depending upon on your needs and goals. Essentially, the counseling process is driven by you. We have two therapists at our facility, Bushra Husain, DSW LCSW, Maryum Khwaja, LCSW.
You’ve been wondering why you do & feel the things you do—why specific behaviors keep repeating, why you feel stuck, no matter how much you try to change. You’ve done the self-help books, the podcasts, maybe a few short-term therapy stints, but you still find yourself repeating the same patterns. I help curious, motivated people ready to go deeper than symptom management. Together, we’ll explore the hidden patterns, emotional blocks, & past experiences that still shape your present. Our work will be thoughtful & challenging in the best way — the kind of therapy that helps you grow in ways you didn’t know were possible. My approach blends Psychodynamic Therapy with elements of CBT, DBT, Black feminist theory, empowerment, and sociopolitical thought. This allows us to work at both a deep, exploratory level and a practical, skill-based level, always tailored to you. Therapy can be challenging at times—it asks you to face yourself honestly—but it can also be profoundly enriching and life-changing. I work best with clients who are ready to commit to weekly, twice-weekly, or thrice-weekly sessions, so we can create the momentum & depth needed for real transformation. If you’re ready to begin that journey, send me an email.

As a neurodivergent clinician, I have found myself particularly well suited to working with clients with ADHD, AuDHD, PTSD, PDA and/or who are autistic. I also have over a 15 years of experience working with trauma survivors and LGBTQ+ communities. Many of my clients found past experiences of talk therapy unhelpful or helpful only as “maintenance” while larger issues were neglected. I focus on two specific therapies, EMDR and IFS, that go deeper to address underlying issues. I also center the unique needs of neurodivergent clients and include ways to help manage distress and recognize stressors. For many neurodivergent clients, therapy approaches such as CBT have backfired. For example, treating autistic burnout with strategies from CBT to manage depression can actually worsen exhaustion and burnout. Similarly, using exposure therapy to address anxiety primarily caused by social and sensory issues related to ADHD or autism may cause further distress. I center neurodivergent experiences in my approach to therapy and help clients explore strategies to reduce sensory and emotional overload and recover from burnout. If you are finding yourself spending your energy just trying to get through the day, it is time to start working towards a better future. Let's work together to help you level up your life.
Has depression stopped you in your tracks? Has a sense of emptiness settled over you? Perhaps you feel like nothing in life is worth the effort anymore. Are you feeling “stuck” during a transitional time of your life—perhaps adjusting to a new career, new baby, relationship, or living situation? Have you recently given birth and feel overwhelmed by everything? Do you feel ashamed or embarrassed that you’re unable to manage the stress on your own? Fortunately, psychotherapy has the answers that you are looking for. With one-to-one sessions with a therapist like myself trained in treating depression, anxiety, maternal mental health concerns, and PTSD, you can learn skills to lessen depression, reduce anxiety, support postpartum mental health, heal from trauma, and find a positive way forward. I view therapy not only as a means of reducing emotional distress but also as an approach to personal growth. However, I believe that therapy should not be a way of life and I therefore support clients in developing concrete skills, with emphasis on working with emotions: promoting a better understanding of emotions and emotion regulation. I view therapy as a collaborative process of exploration. I bring to this process an attitude of compassionate curiosity and non-judgment. I also draw on my own bi-cultural experience - I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. I practice emotion-focused therapy, which emphasizes the positive, adaptive roles of emotions. Sometimes, however, due to stress, trauma or adverse life events, emotions can become a source of distress. Through empathic, collaborative exploration I help my clients identify their authentic emotional needs and develop strategies for managing and regulating distressing emotions. If you are located in Western Mass (Pioneer Valley) I also offer walking therapy and animal assisted therapy. Therapy is my 2nd career. My PhD is in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) and my therapeutic work is informed by 25+ years of research in AI and cognitive & affective science. I am thus very familiar with academic environments and draw on this knowledge when working with students, both undergraduate and graduate.
Pror to going into private practice, I worked at UMass Boston for almost 30 years. I have worked with students, both "traditional' and 'non-traditional' - toward academic and personal goals - for most of my profesional life. Please see my web site for more information about my approach and and my areas of practice.

I work with people who struggle with significant emotional and behavioral issues that cause them to feel disconnected from others. The people I work with often begin therapy feeling confused and hopeless about how they feel and behave in their closest relationships. They may understand something is wrong, that they are not living the life they want and having the type of relationships they long for, but nothing they find online or in self-help books seems to get to the core of what they're experiencing. They feel its time to start exploring themselves more personally with a professional. For over a decade I have worked with people in both short- and long-term therapy to explore and overcome complex emotional issues. To orient myself in this work, I utilize Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which focuses on making sense of deeper, more systemic struggles, issues that often stem from early relational trauma. If you are tired of trying to deny the emotional turmoil you feel in both your life and in your relationships, I encourage you to reach out to me. I have significant experience working with people who come from very difficult upbringings. I have helped them find meaning in adulthood and have gratitude for the life they now live. Healing is possible.
