Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
It is amazing how life can take us in so many different directions? Some roads may be exciting and new, but there are also times when we come across a challenge that may be difficult to handle on our own; we feel unable to deal with it. Counseling can assist in the process of managing one's feelings, challenges and struggles. You do not need to manage this on your own, talking with someone can help with giving you direction, help you understand why you are feeling this way and how to make things better for yourself and /or others around you. I have 9 years of experience with all types of issues including grief and loss, life challenges, LGBTQ+, anxiety, depression, chronic/terminal illness, and a variety of trauma. I utilize techniques that assist each unique individual with the process of addressing any personal challenges and achieving change. You may be feeling hurt, defeated, or lost... counseling can help you understand that you are not alone. Whether healing from your past, coping with situations & issues in the present, or letting go of fears of the future; I am here to listen, help & understand you as an individual, with care & without judgment. If you've gotten this far in my introduction, are still interested and in need of support after the recent tragic events on the MSU campus... please feel free to reach out. I am private pay only but am willing offer several sessions for free and/or sliding scale to help you through this time. I have a variety of times open that I'm happy to share directly with you.

We can manage your prescription and medications. Our Care Philosophy: I believe the best care comes from building a strong partnership with my patients. I take time to listen closely to each person’s story, value their input, and work with them to create a treatment plan that fits their goals and lifestyle. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and focused on empowering patients to take an active role in their mental health. I explain treatment options clearly, answer questions in plain language, and encourage open communication so patients feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. I also believe in meeting patients where they are—whether that means adjusting care to match their pace or providing extra education and resources to help them feel confident. Above all, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a safe and respectful environment where patients feel heard, understood, and supported on their journey toward healing and wellness.
Whether this is your first time in counseling or you are looking to build on previous work, finding a therapist that is the right fit is vital. I am passionate about supporting clients by creating a safe, empathetic, judgment-free and welcoming space for them to process difficult experiences, manage life transitions and gain insight. While I have been a counselor for about 3 years, I have been working with trauma survivors and building on that knowledge for almost 9 years. My foundation as a therapist was built on advocacy work for survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment and stalking. Additionally, I have worked on several college campuses with students as they manage life transitions and stressors that come with this. Lastly, I love working with young adults in processing identity concerns, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and more. As a therapist I want to acknowledge the intersection of identities and life experiences that impact one’s identity. With this, I strive to be person-centered working collaboratively with the client to set their own mental health goals. Due to my knowledge and interest in trauma work I received training in EMDR and use that as a modality frequently. I hope to see you in therapy and look forward to hearing how I can support you in navigating life stressors and overall improving your mental health and wellbeing.
I work with college students who may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, relationship stress, family challenges, or big life transitions. College can be exciting, but it can also bring a lot of pressure and uncertainty. My approach is warm, relaxed, and collaborative—I draw from person-centered, strength-based perspectives to help you better understand yourself and what you’re going through. I believe you already carry a lot of insight and strength within you. Together, we’ll sort through what feels heavy, break things down into manageable steps, and find practical ways forward. My goal is to create a space where you can be yourself, feel genuinely heard, and grow in confidence as you navigate this important stage of life.

Hi, I'm so glad you decided to ask for help! You probably experience lots of stress, between work and school, and other life commitments. You may even be questioning personal things about yourself, now that you're out on your own - what kind of person you are, what kind of body image you have or want to have, sexuality and gender concerns, making friends, or managing home/school/life balance. I would love to help you become more of who you want to be, and live a happier, more carefree lifestyle.

Starting college — or just trying to get through it — can bring up a lot: Am I doing this right? Do I even belong here? Who am I becoming? I’d love to help you figure it out. Together we can work through the stress of adjusting to a new place, academic and social anxiety, career uncertainty, drinking or eating patterns that feel hard to shake, or trauma that’s still asking to be understood. I especially enjoy working with students nearing graduation who are wrestling with what comes next — career direction, next steps, and the identity shift that comes with leaving college behind. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as a professor, and my research focused on identity and belonging — so I have a real passion for working with students exploring who they are, especially those navigating race, class, gender, or sexuality, or who just feel like they’re on the outside looking in. I bring both that academic background and genuine warmth to our work together.

I am highly experienced working with trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodivergency, and family issues. Hi! I’m Christen Clark, LMSW. I’m passionate about counseling women going through anxiety, depression, grief or challenging life transitions. In particular, I have a heart for college students, young adults, and women going through pregnancy/postpartum. Life can be hard. Transitions have a tendency to bring up past trauma, anxiety, or depression. Sometimes “high achievers” can be suffering internally with their mental health while no one else knows. If life feels overwhelming, out of control, or it is becoming hard to function - you’re in the right place. There is hope. I know reaching out for help can be intimidating - maybe even scary. My goal is to help you feel at ease in therapy sessions by building a real relationship. I hope to provide a warm, loving presence and to help you recognize your own strengths. My number one priority is making sure we are a good fit and building trust in our therapeutic relationship. I am fueled by my faith in God to treat every woman I encounter with love, support, and grace. You are worthy of love, acceptance, and to see the beauty of life again. Although I am a Christian, I have experience working with women from all kinds of diverse backgrounds. I value your worldview and we can use faith as much or as little as you desire in our sessions. You are not alone. Keeping our depressive or anxious thoughts in the dark is a breeding place for shame. Opening up is the only way to move towards healing. Sometimes, when we shine a light on what seems so dark and shameful we find out it’s not as bad as we thought. As someone who has struggled personally, I provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in our sessions. I am grateful for 8 years of experience in social work after graduating from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in social work and a Master’s Degree in social work from Spring Arbor University. I’m currently providing exclusively online individual therapy services. Good news - no matter where you’re located in the State of Michigan, I can help.
