I believe that you are the master of your own life, and I believe that therapy is a joint process that we can navigate together. I am not here to judge you or tell you how you should be living. I am here to help you develop the tools and understanding needed to create the life you want and meet your long and short term goals. I have a focus centered around the LGBTQ+ community, but also specialize in working with women's issues, anxiety disorders, depression, and grief. I have worked in crisis intervention and have experience with treating substance use disorders. I utilize a mix of Cognative Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and person centered modalities to help adults who are looking for a change in their life, looking to better understand how to cope, or looking to go through their process of healing and/or recovery. I am not just a counselor, but also a peer. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, and have struggled with an anxiety disorder and bouts of depressive symptoms throughout my life. I hope that my experiences can better help me to understand yours and allow me to be a positive asset to you in your journey to grow and heal.

Hey there! My name is Allison (she/her), I am a traveling virtual therapist with availability September 2025! I am thrilled that I can combine my passion for helping others improve their mental health while living my dream of traveling the USA in my camper van. This journey of life can become turbulent without notice, and having someone to provide support can make all the difference. Together we will work to develop strategies that support personal authenticity that is both meaningful and manageable. I would be honored to join and support you in your mental health journey and aid in navigating the many twists that life has in store! I strongly believe in experiencing life to the fullest of our capabilities. My specialties are in trauma and adjustment issues, anxiety and depression, and interpersonal issues. Using the client centered model we will explore your perspective and goals. I work with adults, am LGBTQIA+ allied, and have a strong emphasis of intersectionality in my work. I am enthusiastic and passionate about empowering my clients to take hold of their mental health journey, recognize their strengths, express their emotions and maintain positive habits in their own safe space.

Our experiences shape how we think, feel, and participate in the world. From individual personality, to family of origin, to cultural context, the interaction of internal and external can result in feelings of depression or anxiety, difficulty in relationships, or confusion about identity. Sometimes all that’s needed is short-term help that focuses on developing better coping skills, and other times deep, long-term, insight-oriented work is necessary to disentangle complex lifelong difficulties. I focus on developing a trusting therapeutic relationship, which sets the foundation to process painful experiences and celebrate meaningful change. By exploring the richness of your internal world and your interpersonal experiences, we will gain insight into the underlying forces that influence the way you think, feel, and behave. I will collaborate with you to manage overwhelming feelings, integrate traumatic experiences, and help identify and remove the obstacles that block your natural ability to grow. With new clarity, you'll be able to break unhelpful patterns, heal from psychological wounds, and move forward in your life with mindful intentionality.

My personal passion is connecting with those who feel like no one really understands them. I can empathize, as several times in my life I have had those very same feelings. My goal is to help and inspire those who feel disconnected and struggling in life. I aspire to help my clients feel satisfaction, comfort, and joy. With years of experience providing therapy for members of the LGBTQ+ community, clients struggling with spirituality, sexuality, or addiction(s); these topics are my passion and where I have been able to help others navigate. I have real-life experiences such as serving in the military, some trauma, and chronic illness and pain. I have over 20 years’ experience with both civilian and government positions in the fields of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Child Advocacy, Chronic Illness and Counseling/Educational program delivery to the community. My focus is to help you through growth, change and resolution. Your journey is as distinctive as you are.

I am currently providing teletherapy for clients anywhere in Michigan. As a clinician, I focus on each individual and enjoy pulling out their strengths. I have experience working with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, poverty, housing crisis, parenting struggles, and trauma. I am easygoing and enjoy listening to others, solving problems, and pushing forward by taking things one step at a time. I strive to be welcoming, patient, and I listen to understand. What traits must your future counselor possess? Should they make you feel heard and validated? Give you tools to succeed? If you said yes, I’m here to help! Life often throws a wrench in our plans, especially when it comes to our relationships, employment, health, finances, and the list goes on. And that’s on top of a global pandemic! It’s no wonder why depression, anxiety, and substance use are more prevalent than ever. As a cancer survivor, I understand how quickly it can feel like the walls are closing in. However, I’ve also learned ways to break free. It’s a primary reason I became a therapist: so I can help others do the same. My specialties including CBT and DBT, which focus on changing thinking and behaviors. This is achieved by building custom action plans for each of my clients. No cookie-cutter plans here! Popular areas to focus on include depression & anxiety, relationships, negative thinking, grieving, and chronic illness. We'll work on whatever is important to you. Making life-changes can be intimidating, but you won’t be going through this alone. I’ll give you hope and support, while simultaneously helping take some of life’s weight off your shoulders. I recognize committing to a full session can be daunting, which is why I offer free 15-minute phone or video consultations. Let's chat - send me a message today!

I am the founder and director of the Mother Wound Project (@motherwoundproject). I received my MSW from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor and have 9 years of experience helping individuals, parent-child pairs, families, and couples successfully navigate the mother wound, the father wound, family conflict, parenting after trauma, no contact/estrangement, and reconciliation. I also support those who are struggling with body image and eating disorder conditions that impact daily life. My approach as a therapist is both compassionate and person-centered. I believe every family is capable of healing and that healing the family is how we will ultimately heal the world.

Many of the students I work with are trying to juggle a lot: school, work, relationships, family, and their own mental health. Some are dealing with anxiety, depression, or ADHD, while others are working through trauma or just feeling stuck and overwhelmed. What they tend to have in common is a desire to feel better and a willingness to take that first step toward support, even if they’re not exactly sure where to start. I work best with students who want someone who will listen without judgment, explain things clearly, and help them find a path that fits their unique goals, whether that includes therapy, medication, or both. You don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out. We can work through it together.

I have a professional interest and passion to counsel adolescents, adults, families, and couples using evidence-based approaches and interpersonal practices. With supporting individuals overcoming trauma, mental illness, and/or substance abuse, I've learned how to aid in promoting an individual's personal sense of resilience through mindfulness techniques, along with other interventions, eliminating barriers to treatment. My clinical orientation includes, but is not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic, existentialism, and person-centered approaches. By observing how individuals’ home and school environments influenced their behaviors, I found a unique fascination and understanding in how systems influence an individual and family.

Sometimes we are faced with certain challenges. Certain emotions might come from work, school, personal relationships, or other responsibilities in life. The act of having to balance certain activities in life can cause stress, anger, anxiety, depression, or a mixture of emotions. Sometimes having a medical diagnosis or a medical issue can cause one to feel sad, angry, or overwhelmed. Please feel free to contact me because I can assist with organizational skills, balancing your daily activities, and providing coping strategies. It is very rewarding for me to help clients.
