Therapists for college students near Duke University
Bethany creates a deeply relational, trauma-informed therapy experience. Her approach is both compassionate and direct, combining evidence-based tools with soul-level support. You’ll do more than just talk-you’ll feel, process, and heal in ways that reach beyond the surface. She draws from EMDR to help you safely revisit and reprocess trauma, somatic tools to regulate your nervous system, and parts work (IFS-informed) to explore the complex and beautiful layers of your internal world. Bethany also uses attachment-based language to build emotional safety and connection, and DBT-informed strategies to hold space for life’s inevitable nuance and emotional intensity. Therapy with Bethany is a place where radical self-honesty meets deep self-compassion. You’ll explore the fears that have kept you playing small, challenge the boundaries and beliefs that no longer serve you, and start moving toward the life you actually want to live-not the one you’ve been conditioned to settle for. And while the work runs deep, it doesn’t have to be heavy all the time. Bethany brings a grounded, human energy to her sessions-one that makes room for laughter, realness, and even joy. She believes in healing that’s holistic and sustainable-where change starts from within and ripples outward into every part of your life. If you’re done with surface-level fixes and ready to do the kind of work that actually shifts you at your core, Bethany is your person. She’ll meet you where you are, walk alongside you through the hard stuff, and help you remember your worth, one honest step at a time.
I work with individuals dealing with life transitions, medical related issues, mood and affective disorders, and marriage, parenting or family issues. I also have my Yoga Teacher Training Certification as well as completing my certifications in Maternal Mental Health and ADHD. My approach to counseling places an emphasis on the relationship between the client and counselor and the promotion of growth. When needed, I use a variety of structured and non-structured interventions to best meet the needs of the client. I utilize empirically supported techniques, including cognitive and behavioral interventions, that focus on the ways in which individuals think about and respond to events. These interventions allow clients to restructure their thinking, process events and modify behaviors in more adaptive ways. I use a narrative and solution focused approach to collaboratively work with clients to identify successful past solutions to problems and how these strengths can be implemented in future situations. Small changes in the way clients view themselves and their own abilities to solve problems will encourage solution-oriented patterns to reach future goals.
Sometimes this world is not the easiest place to live as we do not have control over every circumstance. We do, however, have control over how we respond to life situations we encounter. As humans, controlling our behaviors, our thoughts, our feelings can be a struggle at times. Therapy is a safe place to process, to learn, to grow so that we can react more effectively to life circumstances and to gain more control. College students are about adjusting into adulthood, finding independence, and developing a sense of self and directions. This is the time to utilize therapy to assist in the development of who you want to become. Trauma, mood disorders, relationship problems, anxiety, are many areas that college students suffer from due to past experiences or experiences encountered in college. Take the time to resolve and manage your mental health so that you can be the best version of you!
I work with primarily LGBTQIA+ community. I am very down to earth, non judgmental and integrate humor in my sessions because therapy doesn't always have to be "serious". I feel honored to help people with their therapy journey and make sure everyone feels safe and accepted.

I approach the therapeutic process with the belief that therapy is simply a human helping a human. By offering an objective and judgement free setting, my hope is to provide a space that offers freedom to share and feel without hesitation. I am a masters-level clinician; I earned a master of science degree in counseling and psychology from Troy University in 2016. I'm a client centered counselor with a passion to help empower individuals to gain knowledge, skills, and tools to work through their presenting problems. I aim to build a therapeutic alliance with my clients and create a safe, judgment-free atmosphere with the hope that they are able to openly explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe in the power of knowledge and it's ability to impact healing and frequently apply psychoeducation into treatment. I'm a strength-based therapist and my overall theoretical orientation is integrative; it commonly includes utilization of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as behavioral and solution-focused techniques. I enjoy working with individuals who suffer from anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, relationship issues, and various life challenges. I'm happy to currently serve individuals 18+. I'm licensed in NC and SC. I'm also an out-of-state provider for the state of Florida allowing the option for telehealth for clients located in Florida at the time of service. I am an associate Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who sees teens and young adults adults facing a variety of challenges like anxiety, ADHD, depression, relationship issues, life changes and interpersonal conflict. My passion is working with student athletes. As a high school and travel softball coach of several years, I am uniquely qualified in helping young individuals develop mental health skills they can carry with them throughout life, both on and off the field/court. I see the concerns and needs of teens to be unique and require a different approach than one I may take with adults. Overall, I find it important to see individuals for all that they are, helping them to create their identity and see the value within themselves as a person and not just in what they do or how they perform. All people, but especially young people, want to feel heard and seen. I prioritize authenticity and relationship with clients - working to create a comfortable space of trust, understanding, and growth.
