School can be some of the most rewarding years of your life but they can also be overwhelming. Between classes, internships, work, relationships, family expectations, finances, and figuring out who you are and where you're headed, sometimes it's good to have some extra support. Therapy gives you a place to talk openly about what's going on, without judgment. Whether you're feeling anxious, stressed, burned out, stuck, lonely, or simply trying to make sense of a major life transition, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college and graduate students on concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, identity exploration, gender identity, academic stress, life transitions, binge eating, and body image. Many of my clients are also learning how to manage life on their own for the first time and are discovering that no one ever really taught them how to handle the emotional side of money. As a Certified Financial Social Worker, I can help you develop a healthier relationship with money, spending, debt, budgeting, and financial decision-making. Together, we can explore both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellness so you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I'll meet you where you are, help you build on your strengths, and offer practical tools along the way. If you're curious about working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.

Being human can be tough! While experiencing the challenges that life may hold, I believe you deserve to be heard, understood, and accepted. I aim to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space for you to share, explore, heal, and make sense of your story and experiences. As we work together, you may identify aspects of your life that you would like to change or experience differently. We will work together with curiosity to create intentional and meaningful steps towards creating that change in your life. For me, it is a deep honor to be a part of your journey as we navigate life’s challenges. As someone who has been a client, I commend you for the courage and vulnerability it takes to begin looking for a counselor. You have made it this far with the resilience that resides within you, and I believe you deserve the opportunity to experience the benefits that counseling has to offer. As a counselor, I use an integrative approach that is collaborative and relationship-based, values and strengths-focused, and social justice-oriented. My approach is influenced by components of and includes teaching skills from Person-Centered, Acceptance and Commitment, Dialectical Behavioral, and Cognitive Behavioral therapies. Additionally, I practice from a lens that is trauma-informed and acknowledges the influence of systemic marginalization, intersectionality, and social injustices. Topics that I support adults in navigating include but are not limited to adjustment and stress management, LGBTQIA+ identities, identity development, issues related to young adulthood and attending college, career path exploration, interpersonal relationships, anxiety and depression, grief, trauma, shame, and self-compassion. Outside of my work, you might find me enjoying some time outside hiking or walking at the park, hanging out or cooking a meal with my chosen family and friends, playing the Nintendo Switch, laughing at memes or TikToks, or just catching up on tv shows/movies with my partner and our two cats.

In the beginning, clients typically tell me they can't stop thinking about food. They’re finding a large part of their day is dedicated to their next meal. They miss out on time with loved ones because the concern of what they will “be able” to eat is too strong. A lot of my clients find themselves in a dieting spiral. They “do good” for a while, and then they binge later, leading to feelings of shame and guilt. Most have heard confusing things about bodies throughout their lives. After some hard work and difficult conversations, these clients get their lives back. They stop thinking about food as much, they see their bodies as neutral, and they take back control of their lives. The time they used to spend thinking about food and exercise is replaced with meaningful memories with friends and family. My style of therapy involves a lot of humor, open mindedness, focusing on strengths, and providing feedback. You can expect a listening ear, a confidential space, and a therapist who wants to see you develop into the best possible version of yourself. I am currently seeing clients in NC(in person or virtual) and OH (virtually) Questions? Call or email for a free consultation!

Hi, I’m Dale Karl, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with more than 20 years of experience helping adults work through anxiety, stress, relationship struggles, self-esteem issues, and concerns around food and body image, including emotional eating, binge eating, and bulimia. I proudly affirm and support clients of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds. College and young adulthood can feel overwhelming at times. You may be dealing with pressure to succeed, overthinking, relationship stress, loneliness, burnout, uncertainty about the future, or feeling like you’re not fully yourself anymore. Even people who seem like they’re “doing fine” on the outside can feel anxious, exhausted, or disconnected internally. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. Therapy is a space where you can talk openly without fear of judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on beneath the surface, better understand the patterns keeping you stuck, and find practical ways to help life feel more manageable and balanced. Therapy is not about being “broken.” It’s about gaining insight, learning healthier ways of coping, and building a stronger relationship with yourself. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, lost, emotionally drained, or simply unsure where to start, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with about a decade of professional counseling experience. I enjoy many things, including wandering the great outdoors, getting lost in a good story or my latest creative endeavors, hanging with my people and my pets, and learning about others as I journey alongside them. Whether someone needs a guide or simply some encouraging company, I’m here for it! I have a wide range of experience with various demographics and concerns, but specialize in working with challenges related to personal development, identity and values, relationships (including the relationship with oneself), and trauma. These can include relationship issues (family, friends, or romantic partners), parenting/guardianship, boundaries, grief, various traumas, fears and phobias, self-esteem and self-efficacy, guilt and shame, depressive and anxiety disorders, health issues, healthcare and educational work, and significant life changes. My approach is holistic, person-centered, strengths-based, and multicultural, and may combine aspects of the following: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Schema Therapy Attachment-Based Therapy Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Existential Therapy Gottman Method Mindfulness Therapy Narrative Therapy Play and Filial Therapy Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) I also believe that nature, music, creativity, and humor can play important roles in mental health, and may incorporate these elements into my practice. And, I would love to learn more about your interests and perhaps find ways to bring them into therapy! One of my key strengths as a counselor is my adaptability; I make it a priority to understand your needs and preferences, tailoring my approach accordingly. I always strive to be a warm and approachable counselor who is non-judgmental, respectful, honest, compassionate, and empowering. While I maintain professionalism, I also like to create a relaxed atmosphere during our sessions. (You can expect to see the real me, and I hope to see the real you!) I want therapy to be a positive and rewarding experience for you, and I will do my best to help you feel welcome. During our first sessions, I will likely focus on going over the basic policies and expectations, answering questions, getting to know you better, and learning how I can best support you in this chapter of your life. I'm here to meet you wherever you're at, and I would be honored to accompany you, support you, and empower you on your journey toward holistic wellbeing!
