I love working with college students and young adults who are encountering obstacles in their search for happiness and success. My goal is to provide each client with the most effective, short-term, evidence-based psychotherapy to maximize results without maximizing your time. I have 25 years of experience working with trauma survivors and people who struggle with anxiety, ADHD, and Depression.
My primary goal as a counselor is to create an open and non-judgmental space in which clients can express their thoughts and feelings freely. None of us are without our struggles, and I find it beneficial for each of us to have a space where we can explore these struggles reflectively and creatively. I aspire to gain a holistic understanding of my clients, their life experiences, and their issues, so that we might collectively explore opportunities for growth through evidence-based practice. I find great value in person-centered, cognitive behavioral, acceptance & commitment, and existential therapies. However, perhaps the greatest determinant of success is a relationship built upon mutual trust and understanding between counselor and client. I believe that sound counseling practice is an active, and at times difficult, process for the client. I view therapy as a unique, dynamic space between two people where an alliance is being formed. Clients often come my way frustrated by not being heard by health providers or mental health therapists who lack empathy, understanding, or who come off as judgmental. I have worked with individuals across all walks of life with various difficulties they are trying to navigate. So many people understand they don't feel like themselves, but cannot work through why. I individualize my treatment to fit clients where they are at with where they want to be in mind. She obtained a master’s degree in social work (MSW) with a certificate in trauma-responsive care from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology/gender & women’s studies from Grinnell College. Lise-Marie trained at Coastal Horizons Center conducting Intensive Outpatient Therapy for individuals struggling with substance disorder, as well as at The Open Gate/Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, providing client advocacy and empowerment services. She has worked with clients from various cultures, life experiences, and identities who struggled with depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, domestic violence/abuse, and psychotic disorders. She also volunteered as COO to launch The Parasol Cooperative; a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting life through innovative technology. I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors (hair pulling, skin picking), and ADHD. My approach is informed by evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, (IPT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, and Organizational Skills Training for ADHD. Lifeologie Counseling works with a very diverse set of clientele that experience a multitude of mental health and life issues. Lifeologie's Durham practice is located about 15 minutes from North Carolina Central University's campus and has worked closely with many students and faculty from the school. Graduate students from numerous universities, including NCCU, Wake Forest, and NC State, have completed their practicum/internships at Lifeologie Counseling and have begun working under the owner/supervisor, Dr. Elizabeth Grady. While working in close connection with colleges across NC, Lifeologie has had the opportunity to help counsel and connect with undergraduate, graduate, transfer, first generation, and many other types of students. With a background in school counseling, I have developed a passion for supporting children, adolescents, and young adults.
