Therapists for college students near New York University
Sandra Lugo's Mental Health Services
Many insurances are accepted and services provided in-person and Telehealth. Psychotherapy will help you navigate difficulties in relationships, careers, and life in general. It will help you understand and work through the emotional roadblocks, such as anxieties and depressive moods that can cause individuals to struggle, . Modalities such as CBT, ACT, DBT, IMAGO, psychodynamic and relational approaches, are used in my practice. An essential feature of this approach is the development of a unique and trusting relationship between client and therapist. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, we will discuss difficulties through an exploration of presenting problems, personal history, relationships and goals.

Finding the time and energy for therapy can be hard. Then there's the strange task of explaining the full context of you to a stranger. Maybe one thing requires explaining five others first. Maybe you spend most of the hour catching someone up and don't quite get to what you meant to talk about. You might mention something you're not sure matters, leave out an important detail, or say something and think, that's not quite what I meant. And sometimes you've said it, analyzed it, understood it, and still don't feel any better. I think therapy gets more interesting when we can be honest about all of that. You may be new to therapy or returning, dealing with something immediate or something you've carried for years, or just feeling off and unsure why. The adults and adolescents I work well with don't necessarily share a diagnosis, background, or reason for seeking help. What they often share is curiosity, some healthy skepticism, and a desire for a therapist they can be real with while healing from anxiety, depression, panic, shame, disconnection, creative blocks, relationship patterns, life transitions, and the harder-to-name reasons people come to therapy. I believe you deserve to feel better, but I don't think I get to decide what "better" should look like for you. You know your life in a way I never can, and I take that seriously. I see therapy as something we build together: I bring my training and perspective; you bring everything I couldn't possibly know from a diagnosis or a few sessions. The version of you that can't fit into an intake form is the one I look forward to getting to know. I take an integrative approach to psychotherapy, drawing from different ways of working depending on your needs, goals, history, and the way you make sense of the world. In session, my style is conversational, candid, creative, and nonjudgmental. Sometimes a session calls for a concrete tool. Other times, it means getting curious about a relationship, memory, story, pattern, or behavior that keeps resurfacing. I am influenced by narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking. I'm particularly interested in shame, self-compassion, and the ways we learn to cope. Time spent in outpatient substance use treatment and crisis work shaped the harm-reduction lens I bring beyond addiction, respecting your autonomy, reducing harm, and recognizing that change doesn't have to be all-or-nothing. I'm also interested in what a pattern does for you, where it helps, and where it gets in the way. Working together, you can expect a space that feels thoughtful and alive. I draw from evidence-based psychotherapy, but I don't believe good therapy has to feel formulaic. We might follow an unexpected connection or use a piece of writing, a song, or a metaphor to help us think about problems differently. Most of all, I want our work to feel real. I'm collaborative and human in the room: I ask questions, share what I notice, offer my perspective, and invite your feedback. My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t linear. I studied creative writing and worked in marketing for about half a decade before going back to school for social work. Though I always felt crushed by existential questions and the usual pangs of human condition. Changing careers taught me that it’s possible to invest in one version of your life and still decide you want something different. Becoming a therapist wasn't a linear path for me. Changing careers taught me that it's possible to invest in one version of your life and still decide you want something different. Outside of work, I like making Spotify playlists with overly specific names, reading and writing fiction, doodling, working my way through The Artist’s Way, analyzing reality TV, fun pens, and breakfast food.

College and early adulthood come with a lot of messy, in-between moments — anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, identity questions, and transitions nobody fully prepares you for. I'm David, and this is exactly the stuff I work with. My background is a little different: I hold degrees in both Neuroscience and Social Work, which means I bring both brain-based science and genuine human warmth to every session. I use IFS, mindfulness, and somatic work to help you understand your patterns — and I'm equally comfortable with harm reduction or a focus on full abstinence, depending on what's right for you. Expect some humor and creativity along the way too. No judgment, no scripts. Just a real conversation. Reach out whenever you're ready. *Insurance & Fees* I am in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Northwell Direct in NY only, and out of network with all other major insurance companies in NY and FL. My office provides a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement and we will assist you in verifying your benefits to ensure the process is seamless. I also offer a sliding scale rate for those in need. Please reach out to learn more about how we can make therapy work for you.
Calm Collective Therapy
Our drive as therapists has always been to help others, and to help guide clients into finding their inner peace at a time when so many - and understandably so - have felt an intense amount of anxiety, sadness, and just an overall sense of emotional turmoil. We work through a lot of things with our clients: how to get unstuck, establishing boundaries, feeling more confident, and finding strategies to work through the anxiety and depression that plagues so many, to name a few. Most importantly however, we hope to be able to help you reclaim your own space in a world that demands you to be quiet. To be able to really live. Unapologetically. Bravely.

Madeline Manning
Madeline offers therapy that meets you wherever you are on your journey. She supports individuals who are seeking to heal their relationship with their bodies, manage anxiety or overwhelm, or navigate transitions and identity shifts with greater clarity and compassion. Madeline also works with couples who wish to deepen communication, restore connection, and strengthen emotional intimacy. Across her work, she emphasizes nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and cultivating a sense of inner safety—so that clients can move through life with more ease, authenticity, and self-trust.
Laurice Adams
Are you a creative person with high aspirations experiencing procrastination, perfectionism, and a hostile inner critic? Do you want to feel more free in your work or your relationships? Do you feel anxious or depressed and want to obsess less and laugh more? We will think together to figure out why you feel stuck, and how you will transform. We will collaborate to your unique strengths, using an eclectic approach. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the state of New York and received my Master's Degree from New York University in drama therapy. I completed post-graduate psychotherapy training at the Institute for Developmental Transformations, where I also served as Associate Training Director for three years. I worked at the School of Visual Arts as a psychotherapist and for 9 years worked at Bellevue Hospital in the department of psychiatry. I utilize empirically supported and embodied creative approaches to psychotherapy including Attachment Focused EMDR (completed levels 1 -3). I believe we should all be free to love who we love, to identify in whatever way feels most natural to us, and I am honored to hold space for anyone who is questioning what is "right" for them. I am fortunate to have worked with individuals from many continents. I strive to be aware of the power and privilege I have in the therapy space. I invite dialogue and play for exploring issues of cultural identity, race, class, trauma and abuse of power. I am an out-of-network provider for Wellfleet-Cigna (SVA, NYU, Cooper Union, Sarah Lawrence, etc.) and submit the paperwork on client's behalf.

In our work, you will be warmly supported to ease your way into emotional awareness, see your true self more clearly, feel safer, and move towards actual changes you want.

Wai Ying "Jenny" Chan
I specialize in treating depression and anxiety, with a focus on individuals navigating family conflict, intergenerational trauma, and the unique stressors that can come with immigrant and international backgrounds. These experiences can shape how people view themselves, relate to others, and manage stress, often contributing to feelings of overwhelm, guilt, or emotional strain. I also specialize in working with patients navigating bipolar and other mood disorders, grief, substance use, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Therapy helps to better understand these patterns and experiences, while also building practical tools to manage symptoms. It can help you set boundaries, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of coping. When combined with appropriate medication management, this approach can lead to more stability and an improved sense of control in daily life. I am passionate about mental health because I believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood. I strive to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care that meets you where you are while supporting you in building insight, resilience, and meaningful change in your life.
Juliet Spier Therapy
My therapeutic work tends to resonate with people who have spent a long time thinking their way through distress and are ready for something that goes deeper. I tend to work well with people who are struggling with a persistent sense of loneliness or feeling misunderstood, and who need therapy to be able to hold complex layers of experience. Many are navigating a queer, trans, or neurodivergent experience that doesn't fit easily into any category, struggling with nuanced questions about relationships and sexuality, or bearing the weight of repeated traumas, anxiety, and depression.

I'm passionate about helping you develop emotional resilience, reinforce your communication skills, and achieve greater overall well-being. Empathy and connection are at the heart of my work as a therapist because healing and growth, I believe, happen through safe and supportive relationships. These values help me be a collaborative partner in your journey so you can explore challenges, build on your skills, and work toward positive change at your own pace. My approach is collaborative and individualized, helping you develop greater self-understanding, healthier patterns of behavior and communication, and more meaningful bonds. You can expect a warm, safe, and supportive environment as we work together, using culturally responsive, strengths-based, and trust-centered therapeutic approaches to help you build emotional regulation skills, navigate life changes, manage stress and anxiety, and support your relationships. My style is compassionate and patient-centered, and I strive to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make changes that support your personal growth. My path to becoming a therapist began by working with children and families. Early in my career, I helped children identify their emotions, express their needs, and develop healthy attachments. Along the way, I developed a deeper appreciation for the ways our early experiences, family dynamics, and cultural background shape who we are and how we connect with others. I learned that every behavior, emotion, and coping strategy has a story behind it. This perspective helps me approach each patient with curiosity, compassion, and an understanding that growth occurs when people feel safe, supported, and heard. I enjoy yoga, hiking, and biking to stay active and recharge, and I love a good game of backgammon. Theater, art, and independent films are among my favorite ways to unwind, and cooking and traveling round out my list of interests.

Sophie Spiegel
With seven years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, helping people navigate life transitions, behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress management, self-esteem concerns, attachment issues, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to meet you where you are. Whether you're carrying something heavy or simply searching for a clearer path forward, I'm committed to creating a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, seen, supported, and understood. When you feel that kind of safety, meaningful growth becomes possible — and that's what we'll work toward together: healing, resilience, and the life you envision for yourself. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you as we work together toward your goals. In our sessions, you can expect a nonjudgmental space where you feel empowered to share your experiences, explore challenges, build on your strengths, and create meaningful growth and change. Because every person's journey is unique, I tailor treatment to your individual needs and goals. My warm, empathetic approach may draw on person-centered therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), alongside other evidence-based interventions, to provide care that is personalized, collaborative, and genuinely responsive to your experiences. My path to becoming a therapist began with a genuine desire to understand people and how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors shape the lives we live. That curiosity led me toward direct work with families, children, adolescents, and young adults in crisis, experiences that deepened my commitment to trauma-informed, individualized care. Working alongside people in some of their most difficult moments strengthened my ability to show up with compassion, empathy, and understanding, in an environment where people feel genuinely supported. I love playing softball and catching baseball games whenever I can. When I'm not on the field or in the stands, I enjoy watching movies and TV, traveling, and spending time with the friends, family, and loved ones who matter most to me.
