I come to the practice of counseling after many years working in student services in a university setting. I find (as the research continues to show) that the most important element of effective counseling is the connection between client and counselor—we will work collaboratively. I draw on many approaches including but not limited to client-centered, mindfulness, existential therapy, attachment theory, Buddhist psychology, solution-focused, trauma-informed, grief work, and internal parts work. I am in network with Aetna insurance and UHC/Optum and I also take direct pay (sliding scale is $170 to $120). I am seeing clients mostly through a HIPAA compliant video platform. Currently (Spring 2026), I do have a small number of openings for new clients. I am licensed to practice in New York, Connecticut, Maine, New Mexico, and registered for on line counseling in Florida and South Carolina.

I specialize in supporting college students who are navigating the many transitions that come with this stage of life. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by academic pressure, questioning your direction, adjusting to new environments, or trying to balance relationships, you don’t have to figure it out alone. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without feeling judged or misunderstood. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on in your life, build tools to manage stress and emotions, and help you move toward the version of yourself and your life that feels most authentic and meaningful. I’m especially passionate about working with college students because I remember how complex and overwhelming that time can be. My goal is to be the kind of therapist I wish I had when I was in college; someone who truly listens, understands the challenges of transitional life experiences, and offers steady support while you figure things out at your own pace. Do you feel stuck in an exhausting cycle of trying to feel more in control of your life? Maybe you are tired of feeling like the friend who gives more than you get back. Or maybe you are constantly chasing perfection and still finding new flaws to criticize. These patterns can take a toll and often show up as anxiety, disordered eating, low mood, or feeling disconnected from yourself. If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and there is a way forward. I’m Nicole, a therapist with training in both mental health and nutrition. I take a holistic and practical approach that helps students understand what fuels these patterns and build the tools needed to break them. I use evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing to help you work toward self-acceptance, balance, and a life that feels less overwhelming. In our work together, you can expect a safe, supportive space where you can be honest without fear of judgment. You do not have to be “all in” right away. I meet you exactly where you are and help you take steps that feel doable and meaningful. If you want to feel more grounded, more confident, and more at peace in your body and your life, I am here to help you get there. Recovery is possible, and you do not have to take the journey alone.

I believe the most important foundation in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. The therapy relationship can be a safe place to practice new skills that you are hoping to bring back to the rest of your life. My goal is to help you to feel safe during your time with me, so that you can explore yourself, your challenges, your strengths, your history, and anything else that is important to you. I also hope to help you make the changes that you would like to make in your life. Maybe you can feel better than you do now. Maybe you can learn more skills to cope with what feels hard. Maybe you need to be heard and validated. Whatever brings you to therapy, I’m here for it.

Amanda Amodio
With more than 17 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I specialize in helping adolescents, families, and adults navigate chronic stress, illness, loss, trauma, relational health, and life transitions. Whatever form difficulty takes in your life, my goal is to help you find equilibrium, develop new coping strategies, reduce stress, and move toward an improved experience of health and well-being. I believe in the strength of the therapeutic relationship and bring my genuine authenticity to every part of this process. It takes real courage to seek help, and I want you to feel that courage met with care. From our first session, I'm committed to building a strong connection so we can collaborate closely and I can fully understand your needs. If you're ready to take that step, I invite you to reach out so we can begin this journey of discovery toward healing and growth together. I believe in treating the whole person from a biopsychosocial and mind-body-spirit perspective. That means taking into account your identity, culture, beliefs, purpose, relationships, and environment, not just the presenting concern. My approach is evidence-based, insight-driven, and solution-focused, built around helping you find meaning in adversity and apply new skills to improve your health, well-being, and quality of life. Together, we'll gain awareness of your unique strengths and use them to better understand your circumstances. From there, we'll co-create goals and plans for facing challenges with clarity and a greater sense of ease. To support that work, I draw on a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, identity-affirming, and psychodynamic approaches. Throughout it all, you can expect a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where the direction of care is always shaped by your needs. My path to becoming a therapist began in a hospital setting, working alongside people living with serious illness. Witnessing how illness affected patients' emotional health, their family relationships, and their understanding of their own care had a profound impact on me. Watching people from different cultural backgrounds seek emotional support during some of the most stressful moments of their lives — and exploring what kinds of services were available to them — deepened my commitment to culturally responsive mental health care. These experiences are the foundation of how I practice today. I bring an awareness of cultural differences and a genuine focus on each person's unique perspective and preferences to every session, tailoring treatment to what matters most to you. In my spare time, I'm drawn to the outdoors. Swimming, long walks, and photographing nature are all ways I stay connected to the world around me. I also play percussion, love live music, seek exploration and travel to learn more about different cultures and try new foods from around the world, and find joy in spending time with family and friends.

More beneficial than any technique offered during treatment is finding the right person to work with. You will find me to be insightful, genuine and completely with you while in session. I work to create a calm, safe, trusting environment so that true growth can occur. I focus not only on alleviating symptoms, but strive to find the core issue(s) causing the symptoms so that growth is lasting. I recognize each person and situation is unique and tailor therapy accordingly. My background encompasses more than academic and office-based therapy. For over 20 years I have worked with people from varying backgrounds in schools, camps, businesses and the medical field. This experience has allowed me to develop a unique and effective form of therapy my clients can understand and apply in their every day lives.

I'm a Clinical Psychologist, licensed in the State of New York, and have over 20 years of experience in successfully helping college students who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, grief & loss, and poor self-esteem. I enjoy working with people from a variety of different backgrounds, identities, and life circumstances. I take the privilege of working with patients very seriously and am committed to providing a consistent, supportive, and productive therapy experience to each of them, in every session. I have specific training in several treatment approaches (Interpersonal therapy, CBT, & contemporary psychodynamic therapy among them), and tailor the work to the particular needs of each patient. Regardless of the approach, however, my goal is always to work together to find practical strategies and solutions we can use to create real, meaningful change. While my experience and training are certainly important to how I approach this work, I believe my genuine personal warmth and natural sense of humor are also central to creating therapy relationships that feel safe and transformative. If you'd like to discuss the possibility of our working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

Sometimes therapy feels like it’s going nowhere, as if you’re just getting a listening ear, without actually learning how to get better. If you’d like to get real tools for handling life’s challenges, and you’re ready to put in the work, I can help. Maybe you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, sleep troubles, or dating and relationship issues. Whatever you're facing, you’re probably putting a lot of pressure on yourself to figure things out. Working with me will challenge you to change the way you think and make life more enjoyable. When we meet, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other and coming up with the most appropriate plan of attack. You’ll let me know what feels most important to work on first. Together we’ll identify where you want to go and what’s been getting in your way. With support and practice, you’ll master the skills you need to get there ... and to help yourself feel better for the rest of your life. Before entering mental health counseling, I spent 25 years as a journalist and audio producer, practicing deep curiosity about people—and how to dismantle the often painful stories we tell ourselves. I'm also a stepmom to three amazing young adults. If you value a warm, down-to-earth attitude combined with clinical know-how (and humor), we may be a fit. In-person sessions are available in Rochester, New York; telehealth available anywhere in New York state.

For nearly 20 years, I have worked with adolescents and young adults who have anxiety, mood disorders, gender identity issues, family conflicts and trauma from many different backgrounds. There is no single case that is identical to another, and everyone has their own unique story. I want to hear your story so that I may join your journey to heal. My main approaches are CBT, Family Systems Theory, EMDR, and somatic approaches. I also incorporate Eastern philosophy and focus on the mind-body connection to assist clients in understanding their challenges and rediscovering their authentic selves. As a person who came to the United States as a teen, I personally understand the pressure to succeed, the challenges to navigate the US college system, and the loneliness that limited resources and guidance that first generation college students go through. I have also advocated for people of color and the LGTBQ+ population in an effort to improve equality and deal with human rights issues many years. I strive to provide a safe environment for all of my clients without judgment. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
