We've all heard that life is about balance, but who teaches us how to find that balance? It's hard enough under normal circumstances, but when life throws a curveball that changes your routine, it can feel like you're walking a tightrope. Add other people's needs and expectations to the mix, and finding balance for yourself can seem downright impossible. You don't have to navigate it on your own - I'm here to help! Let's work together to help you become a happier, healthier version of yourself. My therapy sessions are a space for the helpers, healers, carers, and people-pleasers that I work with, to prioritize their OWN needs. At bare minimum, you can count on being seen and acknowledged for who you are, not just for what you can provide or achieve. This on its own can be healing, and will serve as the foundation for our work together. I take a very collaborative approach to treatment, and recognize you as the expert of your own goals, needs, and experiences. Together we'll identify what parts of your life feel out of whack, how you'd like things to look different, and what manageable and realistic steps you can take to get there. We'll gently challenge any thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs that might be keeping you stuck. I also like to teach tools and skills that you can use outside of our sessions to help combat anxiety, improve communication, make difficult decisions, avoid impulsive responses, and cope with life's challenges. I am a strong believer that therapy should be a partnership. Like any strong relationship, the therapeutic relationship needs to be built on trust. I strive for transparency at every step. If I'm teaching a particular skill, I'll tell you about the science behind the skill and why it works. When it comes to mental health diagnoses, we're gonna talk through it together. It shouldn't feel like the work is happening mysteriously behind a curtain - I'm always happy to explain why I'm asking certain questions and where my head is at during our sessions. In the vast majority of situations, I believe that people are just trying to survive in the best way they know how. Your responses may not be serving you well at this juncture in life, but they got you this far, and I think it's important to honor that. If you are seeking therapy, you've already overcome adversity and have some amazing resilience and survival skills. My job is to help you build upon those strengths that you already have. I genuinely look forward to working with you!

I believe issues in our lives arise from a lack of connection to others and to the internal parts within ourselves. Once we strengthen these connections and resolve inner conflict, we are able to reach a state of feeling more integrated and authentic. You are the expert of yourself and I will honor that in our work together. As a counselor, I view my role as walking next to you while you process the areas of your life that are troubling you. We will know you have gotten what you needed from our work together when you feel empowered to navigate your life's challenges confidently.

I often work with students who are dealing with anxiety, school stress, family conflict, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations. You might feel like you’re trying to keep everything together while struggling on the inside. In therapy, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and develop skills that help you feel more grounded in yourself and supported in life. I also encourage parent coaching sessions to help caregivers learn tools to better support their child’s emotional growth.

My name is Michelle Kennedy, and I am a licensed clinical social worker who works with young adults navigating identity, relationships, sexuality, trauma, and major life transitions. I know that college and early adulthood can be exciting, confusing, overwhelming, and deeply transformative all at once. Therapy can be a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. As a queer woman and part of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m especially passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals who are exploring their identity, questioning their sexuality, coming out, navigating family dynamics, or learning how to live more authentically. Whether you’re confident in who you are or still figuring things out, I strive to create a space that feels affirming, safe, and free of judgment. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and trauma-informed. I believe healing happens through connection, honesty, and feeling truly seen. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, relationship challenges, grief, stress, self-esteem struggles, and the impact of past trauma, including abuse, neglect, and loss. Many of the people I work with are trying to reconnect with themselves, build healthier relationships, and feel more at home in their own lives. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, heal from painful experiences, and move toward a life that feels grounded, meaningful, and authentic to who you are.

I am a licensed psychologist specializing in body image/eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, and relationship concerns. I also provide general mental health services for those struggling with anxiety, life transitions, or depression. I greatly enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and am passionate about serving as an advocate as well as honoring and celebrating clients' identities in our work together. I particularly enjoy working with college students as I have spent the majority of my training and career working in university counseling centers. I believe therapy is a collaborative process and I value receiving feedback from my clients and ensuring their voice is heard and respected in our relationship. I emphasize exploring how past experiences and our unique identities shape our current selves and understanding of the world. I aim to create a safe space in therapy as well as a new experience where clients can feel truly seen and accepted as their whole selves. I believe trauma-informed care is essential to avoid pathologizing clients and to name and honor clients' resilience and many strengths. In my work with clients, I aim to be compassionate and authentic while bringing a good dose of humor and relatability. If you are interested in working together, feel free to contact me by e-mail/phone to schedule an initial consultation. You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and have for a very long time. As a child, you had to grow up quickly and take on adult roles, because you had a parent who wasn’t always able to be fully present. Overwhelming emotional pain weighs on you. And you’ve found that the emotional pain shows up as physical pain too - a literal heartache, muscle aches, or back pain. You’ve also lost your appetite or find yourself eating more than usual. You went through something horrific. And you thought you had dealt with it, you thought you could handle it on your own, but it keeps popping its pesky little head up in your current life and relationships. Speaking of which, you have a history of unsuccessful relationships. You long for closeness and intimacy - being validated, loved, and understood - but you can’t seem to avoid toxic people and/or sabotaging the good relationships because when there’s love and harmony you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sometimes as a result of the way you’ve been treated, you question your own worth and value. You worry that your life will never be the same. The fear gnaws at you sometimes that maybe you will never get out from under this boulder of responsibility and heartache on your shoulders. You worry you will never be free. Like my clients, you deserve to find your footing, and discover healing and meaning in life again. Making a full recovery is not out of reach. If you want to not just move on, but move forward, I’d love to help you get there.

As a multicultural woman, I not only have personal experience with historical trauma, intergenerational trauma, and women's issues, but I also specialize in grief and loss, sexual assault/violence, suicidality, relationship issues, transitional difficulties, depression, anxiety, identity formation, and more. With experience serving ages 12-adult, I aim to create a safe space to explore an array of different obstacles within the human experience to leave my clients feeling empowered and heard. With a deep personal and professional understanding of social work, social justice, social change, and historical trauma, I align myself in support of the acknowledgement and healing of all Indigenous Peoples, the Black Lives Matter Movement and Black / African American folks as well as many multicultural minoritized individuals and communities experiencing racialized trauma and injustice, as well as the LGBTQIA+ communities continuing to fight every day for equity across systems. I have a well-rounded perspective on spirituality, and challenge myself to do continued allyship work within myself and my practice to show up for the intersections of my clients with a mindfulness around impact, action, and honoring the innate dignity of the whole person.

You’re tired of thinking about food all the time. Maybe you feel out of control around eating — especially at night — or stuck in a cycle of dieting, shame, and binging. You might even feel like you should know better, but nothing seems to stick. It’s exhausting, lonely, and can leave you hating your body and doubting yourself. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone — and you're not broken. Food may have helped you cope, but now it’s causing more pain than relief. I help people heal their relationship with food so they can stop the cycle and reconnect with themselves. Our work will be collaborative and compassionate. We'll explore the emotions and patterns that drive eating behaviors and practice tools like mindfulness, boundary setting, and emotional regulation. My approach is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and tailored to your unique needs. You deserve peace with food and your body — and you don’t have to figure it out alone.
