Kelly Solis is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York. She has more than 10 years of experience working in the social service and behavioral health field. Throughout her career, Kelly has worked with various populations in a number of different settings. Currently, Kelly provides individual psychotherapy to adults who are struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety and panic, grief, or stress. Many of Kelly's clients experience feelings of sadness and low mood, sleep difficulties, low energy, trouble with concentration; as well as, feelings of anxiousness and worry, difficulty relaxing, and feelings of restlessness. She also provides support to those experiencing difficulty coping with life transitions, loss, relationship issues/conflict, work stress, and trauma. Kelly’s approach to therapy is client centered and strengths based. Kelly helps clients identify how certain patterns of behavior or unresolved traumas can impact their functioning in the present. Using CBT concepts, she educates clients on how one's thoughts can influence their feelings and behaviors. For those experiencing stress, Kelly works with her client to identify what is contributing to their distress and explore ways to improve coping, so that those stressors become more manageable. Kelly takes pride in meeting clients where they are and fosters a space where clients feel heard, safe, and where judgement does not exist. During the intake, Kelly will utilize that visit to gather information to understand the client's history and set goals together. She may assign homework which can help clients become more insightful as they move through the therapeutic process. Clients often leave sessions feeling relieved, understood, and overtime notice a reduction in symptoms. Whether it's your first time pursuing therapy or you're familiar with the process, it's important to choose someone who is a good fit and that meets your needs. Everyone deserves to have a space where they can be their authentic selves, express their feelings, receive unbiased feedback, and where they feel supported. I understand personally how challenging it can be dealing with stress, depression, anxiety and other life issues, which helps me relate with clients on a deeper level. There's a life saying that I love which is "Grow through what you go through." If you are in need of support or looking to foster change and growth, please feel free to contact me for a free phone consultation.

I believe that therapy is a space to tell your unique story, where your lived experience will be received, honored, and validated without judgment. By diving into that story together, I can help guide you in understanding yourself and charting a course for future growth. As we walk this path together, we will work toward self-acceptance, empowerment, and joy. I support clients through a variety of challenges, such as exploring identity, navigating transitions, strengthening relationships, processing trauma, and coping with stress. As a queer, gender non-binary therapist, I am particularly passionate about providing sexuality- and gender-affirming therapy to queer and trans clients of all ages. I prioritize queer joy and gender euphoria in the therapeutic space, and strive to create a safe haven for clients to explore their identities beyond heteronormative sexuality and binary gender. My therapeutic approach is tailored to the individual client, and incorporates a variety of techniques and approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and anti-oppressive practice. My therapeutic style is goal-oriented and client-centered, and I prioritize collaboratively constructing a set of goals to bring intentionality to my work with clients. I strive to bring warmth, empathy, and patience to my work, and I encourage clients to identify and leverage their unique strengths and capabilities. My practice is informed by queer theory and critical race theory, and I strive to help clients explore how their lives have been influenced by social structures of oppression and inequality. In my free time, I love spending quality time with family and friends and finding new favorite spots to eat in my neighborhood. On the weekends, you can find me exploring Astoria Park and fawning over every dog I meet.

After a long and incredibly fulfilling career in oncology social work, I left the medical field choosing instead to transfer all I have learned into the more personal setting of private practice. This has allowed me the wonderful opportunity to really lean in and focus completely on the one-to-one support I had always been so passionate about but rarely had the time to pursue in the hospital. Presently my practice is fully remote. I am collaborative, interactive, and always open to feedback as we take this journey together. As far as my clinical approaches, I draw a great deal of inspiration from meaning-centered psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion approaches. Most importantly though, my role is to hold space for you, creating an atmosphere of unconditional support and safety so that, together, we can explore and address the challenges you are facing. I am a therapist at Octave, a behavioral health practice creating a new standard for mental health care that’s both high-quality and accessible. I’ve worked with clients who struggle with motivation, life balance, career challenges, life transitions, relationships, communication, anxiety, depression, and chronic or terminal health challenges. I enjoy supporting and empowering my clients, helping them to create change and new opportunities for themselves. My goal is to assist my clients in managing various concerns, helping them with life transitions, and goal setting. I have over 10 years of experience providing individual and couples counseling. Having considerable experience working with a culturally diverse client base allows me the ability to be more sensitive to cultural differences. It is important to me to establish a safe, nonjudgmental environment, and show respect to all clients. The methods that guide my practice are a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic, and Motivational Interviewing therapies. I am reflective and flexible in my style. Each person has their own way of relating, and I do my best to create a plan with my clients that works for them. Exploring therapy is a huge step! Should you decide to move forward, I am here to assist you with overcoming obstacles standing in your way of success. Exploring therapy is a huge step! I bring a non-judgmental approach to each session, and I meet clients where they are emotionally and spiritually. When working through the struggles adolescents and individuals may be experiencing, I use a supportive and holistic approach. In the course of our time together, we will process the impact of negative behaviors, and we will restore and set goals. Together we will work on growing your sense of self and meaning. While every therapeutic relationship has unique challenges, the common thread to all affirmative relationships is the presence of empathy, compassion, and sincere caring and understanding. "Have patience with all things, but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being. You’re perfectly valuable, creative worthwhile person simply because you exist. And no amount of triumphs and tribulations can ever change that. Unconditional Self-Acceptance is the core of a peaceful mind.” St.Francis deSales

College can be a great time to start exploring relationships and even making long-term bonds. However, the stresses of college life can challenge even the most loving of relationships. I assist couples to identify communication and intimacy issues that prevent them from connecting both physically and emotionally. There is no size fits all. Thus, I seek to collaborate with my clients to co-create a therapeutic experience that creates the trust necessary to do deeper work.

I was called to this work at a young age after seeing that many people in my neighborhood in the Bronx and in my parents’ home country had no access to mental health care. I wanted to be able to provide mental health support to people from all walks of life. I received my bachelor's of science in psychology from Fordham University, where I subsequently completed my Master of Social Work degree. Following graduation, I became a family therapist, helping parents and youth work on complex family issues and conflict resolution. I worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatric residences, homeless outreach, New York City’s Administration for Children's Services, and a group psychotherapy practice in the Financial District. I currently provide individual psychotherapy as a private practitioner in addition to working at Montefiore Medical Center as a senior mental health specialist. I strive to create a welcoming environment from the very first session. I believe in forming a strong alliance with my clients to create a comfortable space to open up about personal struggles. Collaboration, humor, and validation are key components to my work. I guide people in learning skills that are applicable to everyday life. I was raised in a very racially, ethnically, and religiously diverse environment. Support of marginalized people is a core part of my worldview and translates into my practice. I enjoy working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities and helping them navigate the modern world.

If you’re looking for a therapist who shows up like a regular person, and not a blank slate, look no further. In this room, you won’t get a lot of blank “I see” or “Ahh.” Instead, you’ll have a therapist who is warm, empathetic, and (most importantly) FUNNY. I aim to make the therapy room a space where you can show up exactly as you are. That is, authentically you, whatever that looks like on any given day. We can make space to laugh, to cry, to feel what it is you need to feel in order to help you grow into the you that you want to be. I want this relationship to feel collaborative and within your boundaries. If something we’re doing isn’t working for you, tell me and let’s work together to find something that works for you!

I enjoy working with clients who are eager to improve areas in their lives related to self-esteem, relationships, intimacy, sexuality, trauma, and career satisfaction. My warm, open-minded, and non-judgmental style cultivates a process that is both inviting and challenging. Because no two individuals are the same, our treatment plan will be tailored to reflect your goals. In addition to being a psychotherapist, I have been a full-time professor at New York University for the past 20 years. I specialize in counseling clients in the entertainment industry, creatives in related fields, college students, and the LGBTQ community.
